Title: Dapol Hall paint issue
Post by: bbdave on March 02, 2012, 08:11:47 PM
I have a Hall and noticed a area of dust just under the funnel but on brushing it found it was not dust but greying of the paint has anyone else had this issue?

Looks like a bit of weathering will be in order :-[

Is it greying of the paint or is it inadequate paint application allowing the grey undercoat to show through?

I don't think they do undercoat these?

Or possibly the bare plastic in that case.

Hi i took a couple of pictures of the problem it seems really obvious but i'm sure it wasn't there when i first got it just before xmas

It has only sat on the layout so not come into contact with anything nasty
Is it worth getting in touch with Dapol? but i guess back to the shop first

In the first instance the shop it was bought from should be your starting point. If no satisfaction there, then Dapol. It probably wouldn't hurt to put the pics on Dapol's Twitface page either.

I will take it back to the shop but i just asked as some one else may have had a simlar problem or heard of it, i had thought it may be a scuff but the handrail is fine so it can't be that

Looks like the kind of deposits you get when superglue is used on something - interesting it is around the two handrail knobs....

I agree, it does look like superglue deposits.

I think returning it to the shop in the first instance would be the thing to do. They should replace or refund for you. If you do not get any joy (and you should) then maybe contact Dapol.

It may be worth contacting Dapol anyway. They have stated in the past that they do not use superglue in their manufacturing process but there have been a few instances like this before. If you inform them, they can get in contact with the factory they contract in China and hopefully tighten up procedures to stop it happening again

Thanks i hadn't thought of superglue maybe thats why i hadn't noticed it as that can develop over time. I have emailed Dapol to let them know whats happened and i will be visiting the shop this weekend hopefully
