Title: Woo-hoo alcohol stash!!!!
Post by: emjaybee on November 26, 2018, 11:11:51 PM
Lucky find!

Was ferreting around under our stairs looking for vacuum cleaner bags and found five, yes five Kilner jars full of booze!

Various fruit/alcohol mixes.

According to the labels on them I started them in August 2014.

Just starting to decanter to see if they're okay.

Starting with the Sloe Gin. Good start! Absolutely gorgeous! It's like a fine liqueur. Oh man that's heaven. One down, four to go.

I'll risk something more adventurous. Blackberry whisky.

Oh dear lord. That's rank. I have a feeling I'm going to vomit. No, were okay. I have a feeling I should have dealt with that one soner.

I suspect the Blackberry vodka is as awful. Well it smells as bad. I'm not going to try that one. Down the sink it goes.

Oo, it makes the stainless steel very shiny. Glad I didn't drink that one.

Okay. Two left.

Sloe Vodka. Oh my life. Thats sublime, and I mean really good. Smooth flavur, nice fruit taste. Oh my wurd.

Last one...     ....Sloe Whisky. Now this was alwyas a epxerimnetal one. Good heavens that's supreb two. I mean reeelly niec. Hing on sumthongs hippinging...

Vodka is very good at cleaning the tannin off teapots.
Not sure how I discovered this fact. Nor whether it is cost effective.

We don't believe they are that good. Any chance of posting out a few samples?
Title: Update!

Okay, further to my attempts to catalogue the exploits of yesterday evening...

...sight has returned to my left eye, I no longer have a numb left foot and the involuntary twitch in my right arm has dissipated.

I am putting this down to the mouthful of Blackberry vodka I swallowed. Note to self: try a sip first, don't just assume it'll be drinkable like the Sloe liqueurs.

I checked back through my extensive notes on fruit based liqueur making {sound of envelope backs being rifled through} and it turns out that if you're using blackberries, the fruit should be removed after a few WEEKS, not years as the case was yesterday evening.

To summarise:

Sloe Gin - superb, all the better for being left in the Kilner for as long as possible.

Sloe Vodka - sublime, for the above reason.

Sloe Whisky - excellent first attempt, will do again, possibly with a little less sugar.

Blackberry Vodka - must be more attentive to this in the future.

Blackberry Whisky - not sure I'll try this again. It appears to have slightly dissolved the edge of the rubber plug in the sink, I KID YOU NOT!!!

Samples have been sent out to ALL forum members via Royal Mail clearly labelled 'Sloe Gin - please handle carefully' , I don't want them throwing it around in the van.

Enjoy.

Oh, hang on, the twitch is back. No, it's okay, its passed.

You could send the rest out to Brisbane, for the I'm a Celebrity crowd.
They dont care what they put in their mouths.
You could even sell it as mouthwash. Now there is a thought.

I can't be all that far away - East Oxford - so I don't mind popping over to save you the postage. :D
