That's all very well if you're doing them for
NEXT Christmas, but they're going to be significantly under-cooked for
THIS Christmas.
:telloff:
As a result of Brexit, won't these evil foreigners be banned from coming over here and filling out plates, taking up space that should be reserved for nice British vegetables >:D >:( :veryangry: :veryangry2:  :envy:
Reply #3, Paul;
I certainly hope they will be banned.........
Yeugh!

You knew my grandmother?
Did you know they're actually called Brussels sprouts, they are sprouts from Brussels, not from "brussel".
That's all fact fans.
Brussels sprouts with diced bacon and walnuts. Love it!
And as for cold mashed sprouts and potato pan fried the next day, a.k.a. Bubble and Squeak, well that's my kind of food for any time of the year.
Christmas decorations and lights up in November. Don't love it.
And Mick, if you're hob takes a month to warm up I guess you need a new one. :D Or the logs you're trying to light are sodden. ;) :D

Well, obviously I like them al-dente which is why I've put them on now for NEXT Christmas, but if you like them soft April 23rd 2018 was the day for Christmas 2019.

No, I'm pretty sure ours come from Waitrose.

Well yes, but Waitrose go to Brussels to get all of theirs. They're just saving you the trip.

I never knew I lived in Belgium. Must do, cos not far from me there's a whole load of fields full of rows of sprouts that the farmer ships to Waitrose.
But then of course Waitrose
don't get all their sprouts from Brussels, do they:

Well that's darned decent of them. Also explains why in previous years B.W. (before Waitrose) it took the wife so long to do the shopping.

Did I need to put some sort of smiley to show that I was clearly joking? My observation was just that the vegetable is called a "Brussels sprout" not a "brussel sprout" as many people (Nobby in the OP included) put. Even the URL and product name on the Waitrose website is wrong, although the packaging is correct.
Comments about Belgium were just in retort to Emjaybee's quip.

I'm fairly confident (I think) that nobody involved in this thread is taking it seriously. Although I do have my doubts about the O.P.
:smiley-laughing:
I'm concerned Daffy thought I genuinely thought Waitrose did source all their sprouts from Belgium... :hmmm:
Imagine if there was a protected geographical indication on sprouts, then maybe you'd have to call them "Lincolnshire Sprouts" or "Brussels-style sprouts" or something, unless they were actually from Brussels.
Just a thought if we all eat lots and lots of sprouts every day we could power our own cars .Cheaper than petrol or diesel .

Thank you for your concern about my intelligence, but you can't have failed to notice in a lot of my posts here that I prefer comedy to conflict.
And if you don't want to be misunderstood, a smiley or two works wonders, as perhaps we both failed to recognise here.
:beers:

I'm pretty confident that Waitrose sprouts are sourced from the glens around Brigadoon, rather than any such mortal place like the east coast of the UK.

I think @daffy (http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;u=5634) must have my kitchen bugged to have heard me say "I just can't light these sodden logs"
Thanks for all the laughs, chaps, and sorry to have got the name of the poisonous vegetable wrong. Truth to say, my parents used to say "you can't get down from the table until you've finished" and I can definitely remember still being sat there 4 hours later as I steadfastly refused to let a sprout enter my gob :sick2:
My wife got some Brussels Sprouts flavoured crisps the other day, the world has gone mad!!!!!
I do like sprouts. They taste nice and they keep you warm in bed.😇 (well any brassica really)
Not allowed sprouts the vitamin K interferes with my blood thinners
:D
