I got 2x mermaids, a type 15 signal box, collected 4x class b and 2x cargowaggon twins. I have spent a lot of money in the last month so couldn't really buy anything too expensive.
anyone get anything good? any bargains?
Tim
I had a good bargain on the Farish stand in the form of a mk. 1 buffet car for only £20.
Got 2 almost perfect boxed items from Anoraks Anonymous , a farish midland brake van £8 and a Dapol Fruit D £8, I had been tempted to get one from the Dapol cheapies for £13...
Once the scrum dies down there are still bargains to be had on their stand, last year I picked up 3 x Dapol 21Ton minerals for £10:50.
Resisted the Blue Pullman at £230 but it had gone by 12:00.... But if I had bought it, I wouldn't have been able to type this comment if Mrs "H" had found out...

Surely you could still use your finger like the rest of us? :D
ModelMaster's last remaining Vollmer catenary cross-spans (12 pieces) at half price (£4 each).
From Anorak's Anonymous bargain bins £37 total for: 1x poorly repainted Roco swiss electric loco (worth it for the spares but it's 100% complete and actually runs fine), 1x unused boxed Fleischmann double ended motor (they're £40-£50 now), 1x Bachmann motor from an old 4-8-4, 1x etch for a grade grossing, pair of Fleischmann brushes and springs, bag of Farish containers.
Oh and a prepaid pair of IZA Cargowaggons picked up from Revolution!
Half price Fleischmann Edelweiss Electric Locomotive, Passenger Coach and Baggage Coach. Secondhand items 4 Graham Farish 14 Ton Tank Wagons, 2 ICI, 1 Shell BP and 1 Shell Electrical Oils, 1 Graham Farish Van Worthington, and 1 Peco 10ft Tank Wagon United Dairies, 3 packs of people and 1 pack of farmer and pigs.
I found an "N-Resprays" Tamper kit that was looking for a new home ! That, a valanced A4, collecting my Cargowaggon Twins from Revolution and a few John Grey wagon kits - will keep me out of mischief for a while !
3 Dapol CCT's
2 Farish blue/grey mark 1's
1 Peco point,
2 Metcalfe kits
A Minitrix 3-coach DB D-Zug set and a pair of Wiking Opel Kadett cars both half price from Model Masters :D , a Roco bogie hopper in mint condition from Anoraks Anonymous for just a tenner and some lineside detailing bits from DM Toys.
Oh and of course I got "mugged" by the NGS "you only want one vanwide kit ?" so got 3...
hi
anoraks anonymous is the best stand for bargains i think. it's just so busy. i didn't buy anything at their stand this year though - trying to avoid buying unplanned things.
the farish stand didn't have that much on it on sunday.
it seems like the traders are the same each year... even in the same places... maybe they should mix it up a bit???!!! lets have a few different ones each year???!!!

I only got the two new Medway Queen wagons and the ltd edition twin pack wagons from Osborns plus my most expensive item a nice shiny Class 52 Western which will become Western Champion IF I can get the name plate believe it or not allthough we have some western nameplates on the stand we havnt got that one and not much chance of restocking it either.
The only way I could afford the Western was by selling four Minitrix full brakes and a set of street lights .The other money was from previous sales ,I have to thin down my collection of locos that don't get used often to finance stuff that will be used on a regular basis.
Bob Tidbury
I didn't get much, having just ordered 4 sound decoders I was a bit skint
So got a Dapol Pannier, listed as having a wobble but was fine, some Xuron photoetch cutters, and a few Metcalf retaining wall kits, plus a bit of overpriced circuit board, as they were the only stand with any, plus some back issues on N-Gauge Now. Must have been something else but can't for the life of me remember, I know I bought 4 items from Gaugemaster but can only remember the Xuron cutters mentioned above.
(Edit) Just remembered one more, a Photoetch Greenhouse from Severn Models, I knew I bought the Xuron shears for a reason ;)
My memory is shot these days
Paul
Still had a good day today and put sound in my Midland Pullman, Merchant Navy Class and replaced the blown one in my 08 and all worked without a hitch.
Farish Ivatt 2MT from Cheltenham, the late crest one 46443, a couple of decoders, a few kits and Code 40 roller gauges. The Ivatt has taken a few hours to run in properly but is now running quite sweetly.
I got a couple of etched GNR brake van kits and was gifted a pair of fish van kits (actually we're splitting those once I've opened the packet) and some roller gauges by a very kind and thoughtful fellow forum member. :D :thankyousign:
From the Dapol stand
38xx in BR Black - £60
A4 BR Woodcock - £80 - having to return to Dapol for a replacement as the valve gear fell apart within covering ten circuits of my layout
:unimpressed:
Severn Models
Really nice looking etched brass kits of a signal box and its interior and some green houses, these should turn out well if I can get them right, first time I have tried etched brass buildings

Haha, will get a photo sorted!
Suitably chastened, but in my defence will not be back home for another week to get proper piccies done .......
I bought a Dapol Grange in GWR livery £70, A Farish Deltic in BR blue weathered by TMC £136. A storage box in bright green and two kits from Osborns. I wanted that split head code peak from Mercig !. Tony..
:-[ Should be able to set up the 'studio' today or tomorrow... :camera:
:thankyousign:
Thank you, one and all. :beers: :beers: :beers:
More to the point, congrats to all purchasers on getting past the other half unscathed. Well, at least you're still able to type so the injuries can't be that bad
My modest haul (including the items kindly gifted by another forum member).

At the top of the picture are the Code 40 track gauges, left is a Foxhunter Fish Van body twin pack (to be split with the person who purchased them) and two GNR brake van kits that I purchased myself. The GNR brake van builds up into a lovely model, below is one I made earlier.

Modelling the ex-GNR section of the ECML in the 1930's, these vans are a must as they were still pretty common!

That's really going to make @Jerry Howlett (http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;u=276) feel better :laughabovepost:
I was going to buy some of the JB boxes, but they're cash only. Who doesn't take cards in this day and age?! Need something to store stock in, the KR Multicase boxes look more suitable anyway.
Finally succumbed and picked up a couple of Arch Laser brake van kits from the Osborne's stand. The models looked better in real life than they do on the Osborne's web site, so I think I might be able to make a reasonable fist of them. The Ransome's crane looked great too - though I'm not sure how I could justify it on my layout (except under Rule 1).
Spent rather more this year than I generally do at TINGS. Picked up a couple of German (DB) items - a second hand Minitrix BR 41 2-8-2 steam loco from Plus Daughters in good condition although rather bizarrely with no couplings (although one was in the box). Also bought a Roco BRyl 446 restaurant car from Anoraks Anonymous. In UK outline, a Farish blue/grey BG, meaning that I now have all three variants in the fleet for my parcels train. Bought some 2mm and 3mm air horns from N Brass... fitting those should be "fun". Pictures over in the continental Show your Latest thread shortly.
A Dapol club wagon £6 along with a weathered Siphon £10.50 rounded down to £16 both from Anoraks on the Sunday.
£80 Valanced Golden Eagle
Had a wander, some steak pie and pots and veg.
Then the Land Rover Discovery conked out in Bicester on way home looks like drive shaft crank shaft issue... thank heavens for warranties. I hope!!!!
Nothing-
I wasn't there!
100-odd miles away exhibiting Hawthorn Dene at a very pleasant Weston Super Mare show.
Les
A Dapol Western Glory for £70, which is less than Hattons minus the VAT. It will be renumbered as Challenger.
A blue-grey inspection saloon for £33. No idea why I wanted one, but only decided I wanted one after NGS had sold out.
And two Laser Arch kits; the bank £20 and large engine shed £40. Pricey, I admit, but are really lovely kits.
And of course, steak pie and chips with a bottle of Hobgoblin. Lovely!
Sorry Jerry! @Jerry Howlett (http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;u=276)
Well,
Having saved up ! , A lamp from Showlite for the living room, some second hand coaches, glue and paints, two bodies from DCC, some 16 ton coal wagon bodies for 2mm project. Thanks to Carl got a class 35 as well. A load of stuff from Bob Davies- including some 3D print motorbikes - got them as they were so small...
Bob had a prototype body for a 205 Hampshire power car - ideal for vinyl overlays!
Robert
I drew a fair amount of cash from the hole in the wall but used very little of it, I bought some etched greenhouses from Severn Models, some brass etched Golden Arrow insignia from BH Enterprises and I rejoined the N Gauge Society for the third or forth time!
In the past I've had to let my NGS membership lapse due to the cost of overseas
postage but now I don't have that problem anymore :claphappy:
I was quite tempted by Dapol's panniers until I spied a SECR Terrier in their display cabinet, I've pre ordered one of those instead of making a TINGS loco purchase.

Mind you don't get charged overseas postage to the IoW, Veronica! ;)
Well my son managed to out spend me with his birthday money on a 153 off the Dapol stand for £75, and three western region liveried mk1s for what is fast becoming a 'charter rake', one off the AA stand, and two from a trader whose name I can't remember. He already has a couple of 66s to haul it, and has simply taken a shine to the livery :)
All I got was the Blue and Grey Farish inspection coach from Osborns (I had a voucher for them), and I had a small list of bits to look for which I wasn't expecting to find, but looked for anyway:
Farish MK2A FK,
A specific Electra vinyl which Adam is going to search for,
and any old coaches whose interior I might be able to butcher to fit a MK2D BFK conversion.
I was very tempted by the Chitern 68 on offer in the Cheltenham stand, but decided to save the money as I really need to get a decent controller....

I think you will find it down to the costs of having the machine, the percentage they take and the fact he is a small player. I always take a bit of cash as I find some dealers will knock a bit off for cash.
An Izettle card reader (there are others) is £29, plus 1.75% transaction fees. I was in the stand for maybe 90 seconds (as I'd decided what I wanted and just wanted to get them), and three people walked away because he didn't accept cards, me included.
I would have spent c£100 on boxes, which would probably have covered the cost of the machine for the day.
Obviously it's his prerogative, but these days it's so ridiculously easy to accept card payments it's mad not to. One of the people who does weathering is the same too, and that really is stupid - average item price is £120+, and cash or cheque only! It's a miracle he sells anything!
In fact, his main selling point is through eBay, using PayPal, who charge 3.4% + 20p per transaction, whilst an Izettle is 2.5% for E-commerce, so he's giving away more in PayPal fees on normal sales than he would spend on accepting cards at exhibitions, and that assumes no additional uplift in sales.
I went with a big list but found little I wanted. Bought the following:
1 pack Dapol MJA Freightliner
1 pack Dapol MJA GBRF
from Cheltenham Model Supplies for £55
1 FGW and 1 GWR SLEP overlays from Adam.
Picked up my 2 IVAs from Revolution.
Nothing else there that I wanted on my list.

Despite my incredible dissapointment at failing to acquire anything to EAT at TINGS I have discovered that I did bring back somethinf after all.
My MOJO :claphappy: :claphappy: :claphappy:
Actually started working on the layout after a few months of inactivity.
Bargain wise a still wrapped Farish Midland Brake van £8, my minder @Hailstone (http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;u=1193) being of superior altitude discovered that, and a boxed Fruit D £8 above the scrums around anoracks anon. I had earlier baulked at paying £13 on the Dapol stand. All in all it was worth the return trip from Pisa. Beaten in distance by far by @Mustermark (http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;u=103) .
Hope to make it next year but will eat earlier!
