It such a shame that all the fans are going to the wrong place, when the movie was filmed it took place in the main train shed, platforms 4 and 5 were used for the scenes, there was a GNER train stables on each side to block out public viewing and access to the platform was of course blocked off.
The rest of the station was still open for regular ops, although all ambient noise including starting whistles and announcements were muted.
The wall you really need to see is half way down platforms 4 and 5 (although it just looks like all the rest).
The wall on platform 9 goes through to platform 8, I believe the movie and books depict 9 through to 10.
Sorry for rambling, I worked for WAGN when it was being filmed.
i remember visiting the station then and being baffled by the platform 9 3/4 sign! then I rounded the pillar ansd saw the real Hogwarts express!
Officious types tried to stop us from taking pictures - alas mine seem to have gone to Digital heaven!

I believe JK Rowling has admitted that she was thinking of a different station entirely when she chose Platform 9 3/4, and the pillar used in the films that you describe also doesn't match the description of the barrier in the books. So the actual location is fluid enough that apparently nobody really cares too much :confused1:
