Title: What is this thing???
Post by: NeMo on July 28, 2017, 06:25:33 PM
Was given a secondhand Dapol pannier tank in London Transport livery. Very nice, and it runs well. But one of the items in the "bag of bits" has me stumped. It's about 4 cm long, steel, slightly tapered, and with a hexagonal socket at one end like an Allen key.

Any ideas?

Cheers, NeMo

Thank you!

Err... why would I want to do that?

On this loco there is less reason to, but they include the tool with all their steam, mainly to allow removal to fit replacement traction tyres.

If you need to clean the pickups then the wheels need to come off, so the tool is necessary then too.

Cheers,
Alan

Brilliant. Thanks for sharing. The only Dapol steam locos I have are two 9Fs, a secondhand 14xx, a secondhand 'Prairie', and a secondhand 'Terrier', none of which had this odd little tool.

Cheers, NeMo

All those that you have previously have push in crank pins, rather than threaded ones, which is why none have the 'tool'.

Alan
