Hi
Is anyone a member of DEMU. Just wondering if its worth joining, as i am interested in diesels, dmu's and electrics.
Cheers
Dave
Hi Dave,
Well I'm a DEMU member and would say yes, it is well worth joining, especially now as us N Gaugers have managed to infiltrate the predominately OO commitee with Mike Hale (reddeath) as treasurer and Grahame Hedges (H) as Update Editor.
There are more and more N Gauge articles appearing and we are not the poor cousin within DEMU any more.
Regards
Neal.
Yep, there's a few on this forum who are members including Red Death who is the treasurer, while I'm the DEMU UPDate editor. Of course we'd say it's worthwhile.
It's a multi-scale organisation and has, in the past, been a little OO centric. However, of recent, I've been increasing the N/2mm content in the magazine and with two N gauge modellers on the committee......... 8) And UPDate does tend to feature a lot of useful prototype information suitable for all scales.
It'd be worthwhile getting along to the DEMU Showcase exhibition at Burton-on-Trent town hall on 2nd/3rd June to find out a little more. And check out their website on http://www.demu.org.uk/home (http://www.demu.org.uk/home)

I am a DEMU member and have been flying the flag for N Gauge at the DEMU Showcase, by taking my N Gauge stuff and getting Adam Warr to join me.
I'm always too slow. All is said already.
I'm also in, BTW. Though being a silent member I know there is a great knowledge base when I eventually need it and I find the UPdate magazine always an interesting read.
How much is it to join? Could not find it on the web-site (but may have been having one of my 'stupid' moments).
Thanks for the replies. All seems very positive. Now shall i join now or wait until i go to Model Rail at end of February.

To members, where stocks are available, yep. Available through the Merchandise Officer (who is also the Memebership Secretary).

Thanks for that H. Looking forward to receiving my membership

I've been a DEMU member for a couple of years and would recommend it to anyone interested in the Diesel / Electric scene. There is a web forum wich, despite having a 4mm bias, has some really inspirational stuff and a lot of useful prototype info. Since Grahame took over as editor of Update, there has been a big increase in N Gauge content - I've even done a couple of articles myself!

It must be time for another. Issue #65 is now at the printers but I'm already starting to put together UPDate #66 and looking for content for it. Although the theme is class 66s - anything D&E is acceptable.
H.
I would imagine there is a members show and tell now and again?? Where members can send in pictures of there latest projects etc etc?? Aslong as it passes the editors approval first..
I should stop asking questions and just wait for the UPDATE issue to arrive :smiley-laughing: I will certainly try and get some back issues from the last couple of years or maybe right back to issue 1  I read that they are currently looking at getting issue onto CD ?? That's a really good idea and will be available to members.....Hey Adam.....I may even get round to finishing that Class 310 soon and show it off on here!! Been so busy with the house past few months!!! It's getting there though.
Cheers, Anthony

I joined now as i saw a new issue was due, and didn't want to miss. Do you take back issues to shows for members to purchase, or could a collection be arranged?
We don't normally take back issues to shows for purchase, they are normally there for people to look at and an enticement to join.
If you look at the DEMU Forum you will see that we have Area Groups and those are the guys who arrange for DEMU's attendance at shows with the Roadshows, they are always looking for volunteers to man, or woman, the stand and show off your latest efforts.
Please do not think that your efforts will be scrutinised and ridiculed because that is not the point, you will be encouraged by fellow members and to be perfectly honest, you won't get much modelling done because you'll be too busy gassing :smiley-laughing: :smiley-laughing:
DEMU is a very friendly society and it's also a good way to get know other D&E modellers in your area, without actually joing a Club as such.
I look forward to maybe meeting up with you DEMU Newbies at the Showcase in Burton-on-Trent on 2nd/3rd June 2012.
Regards
Neal.

Great - well done on joining.
As Neal has mentioned, back issues are not taken to exhibitions specifically to sell but there are usually a few sample display copies. However, as I've already mentioned, back issues, where available, can be ordered through the Merchandise Officer. Have a word with Alan (usually best as a PM through the DEMU forum - which you'll be able to join as a member), who is also the Memebership Secretary, and come to an arrangement about how to get them. Other than that no doubt you'll be able to get them at the DEMU Showcase event in June.

Out of interest for those who recently joined DEMU, the latest quartery newsletter 'UPDate' (issue #65) has just been printed and sent out. Mine arrived at lunchtime today, so if you've not already received it, it should be dropping through your letterbox shortly.
H.
Will look forward to a good read of that later!

Well of course it takes longer ::) ::)
I mean with it being up hill all the way from the printers/distributors and having to clear customs, by the time everyone in the chain has had a good read it'll be weeks before you get it ;D ;D
Enjoy it when it comes, it's another great copy from H and the gang.
Regards
Neal.
My issue arrived safe and sound yesterday  Cheers guys :beers:
Anthony
Mine arrived yesterday, very good read.

Issue #66 of 'UPDate' is now out so those who are members of DEMU should be getting their copy drop through their letterbox this week.
H.
Chaps,
How many of the NGF members on here that have joined DEMU, have also signed up to DEMU's Forum http://www.demu.org.uk/forum/index.php (http://www.demu.org.uk/forum/index.php)
Also, how many of those new members are willing to help at the DEMU roadshow at TINGS this year???
If there a people willing to help, then please look at the Roadshow thread on the DEMU Forum and put your name down, you'll get free entry to the show and a good days crack with like minded N Gauge DEMU'ers.
The only downside is you have to sit there talking to people and trying to do some modelling ;D ;D
Cheers
Neal.
Issue #67 of UPDate is now complete and will be going off to the printers soon (just got to finish off Internal User #6 which will be sent out with it) so DEMU members can expect copies probably at the end of July/beginning of Aug. And yep, there will be some N gauge in it as well as a photo report of ShowCase.

In case of any you fellow NGF'ers and DEMU'ers haven't seen Neal's plea for assistance - if you are a DEMU member and able to give over say half a day to demo N gauge modelling on the DEMU stand then you will get free entry!
Drop Neal a line if you are interested. It really is the best way to convince people that DEMU isn't just focussed on 4mm.
Cheers, Mike
Further to my earlier message (previous page), 'UPDate' issue #67 has now been completed and has been sent off to the printers. It should be sent out to all DEMU members at the end of July/beginning of August.

Apologies for the blatent plug but it's information that is hopefully of interest to NGF'ers who are also DEMU'ers and there is some N gauge content in it.
