Hello!
I just wondered if anyone else will be up at about 01:00 tonight to watch The Flying Scotsman pass through on the way to East Grinstead and onto Bluebell Railway?
I'll just stay at work until 00:30 and then walk to Riddlesdown Station. :o :D

Watched it steam pass the canal playing fields earlier today in Berko. Went with the wife and our toddler. Just the loco and a single support coach. The German style smoke deflectors really do look cool.
Cheers, NeMo
Lucky for you all that it was in the daytime.....the next couple of hours will be tough. :D
I've seen some photo's on Twitter with that coach and the deflectors. I agree that they look great.
Well... here's what I saw to keep you going, Tank!
Cheers, NeMo

Very nice Nemo, thanks. I hope your toddler liked it?

Can you live stream it to facebook pls Chris?
I'll see what I can do Paul. I do have an 'iPhone' tripod on me, but I have my HD Camcorder that'll be doing the better quality recording.

To be honest she was more interested in the ducks.
No accounting for taste, I'm afraid!
Happy hunting tonight!

Beautiful! Only one at the station, set up two cameras and got some reasonably good footage - it is 01:10 in the morning! ;D
Cool! Can't wait to see it!
It was early and almost caught me by surprise, so a little jerky at the beginning - in HD if you adjust the settings.
Going backwards!
Still cool. Loved the chuffing at the end... is there a gradient out of that station?

Thanks for those, lovely and clear in daylight! :D :greatpicturessign:
How do people find out about movements of steam trains when they aren't on an excursion? I have just seen local news about the tornado traveling along Newcastle to Doncaster line late last night which if I'd known I would've tried to go see it.

Yes, slight gradient and it's entering a tunnel. I'm glad I kept filming to get that part! There was an EMU coming the other way near the end.

Go here and check out the steam locomotive movements section.

Good video! Very atmospheric it emerging from the gloom. Surprised you were alone, even at that time.
Interesting to see it running tender first along this section. Presumably running at this time a night, slow speeds are fine. It would have needed to run round as it arrived at Southall from the east, and departed to the Bluebell in the same direction as far as Acton Wells Jc.
Not easy to identify, but yesterday's diagrams are below (even more difficult as it is marked up as diesel!):
Keighley to Southall

Southall to East Grinstead

It helps if you have the identity of main centres - such as Carnforth and Southall - then do some investigations from that.
Would love to be in Riddlesdown station but I'll pass on the 'Flying scotsman. The railway equivalent of the Kardashians. :( I'm feeling sad now as it doesn't look like I'll get back to the bluebell this year and East Grinstead)
