Title: Spray paints
Post by: STEVE44 on January 18, 2012, 04:54:35 PM
Hi there, Can anyone tell me what car spray paints I can use for all the different liveries we have on the modern railways now. All is it best to use the correct railmatch colours. Just going to try somethink different if there are matches as I hear people do use these car sprays. Cheers Steve.

Halford spray grey primer is always usefull but i would go down the railmatch route for colours, quick tip with them soak the spray heads after use and keep them immaculately clean or else you'l have it dripping on you instead of spraying,,,,, warm the can in warm water before and give it a good old shake, and when you think you've shaken it enough, give it another just in case, when i first used em i had problems but getting used to them now,,,,

I've done several repaints using Holts car paint cans. The colours I've found so far suitable for loco colours are:

Rover Brooklands Green - BR Green
Rover Teal Blue (discontinued) - BR Blue
Rover Electric Blue  - Alternate BR Blue (similar to the blue used by EWS on 37425) - a bit bluer than Teal. Also for main Arriva Blue
Ford Electric/Monza Blue - Arriva central blue colour.
Satin Black - Loadhaul, roof black
Peugeot Royal Blue - DRS Blue
Ford Burgundy Red - West Coast & BR Maroon
Fiat Broom Yellow - Warning Yellow
Ford Moondust Silver - National Express silver
Appliance Gloss White - National Express white
Ford Dove Grey - Main triple grey (lower band) as found on some EWS locos
Ford Polar Grey - Upper triple grey as found on some EWS locos - Also suitable for roofs on large logo blue livery
Bumper Dark Grey - Triple Grey roof

Hi Chris , Cheers for that info that is a real help. I was thinking about respraying a class 37 into DRS livery but I noticed that Fox transfers only do the numbers and not the decals. Do you know where I can get some from.

Cheers steve.

Lancaster City Models do the DRS decals but you will need to order by phone as their website is not currently working.
