Title: Gulf Bogie Tanker
Post by: 47033 on March 16, 2017, 12:23:08 AM
I just saw Farish are releasing new 100 Ton Bogie Tankers and the price on their Website say TBA.

Now I just looked at Hattons website and they have them priced at 42 pounds each. I hope that is a mistake.

I fear that'll stand. It's on a par with other new GF releases.

Farish are re-tooling their TEA bogie tank so it wouldn't surprise me if they came out around that price.

Cheers, Mike

The Gulf one is weathered, so £6 more expensive than the Esso or BP versions.

Just £36 for them.

I bought 10 of the weathered BP ones, new from Hattons about 4 years ago for 13 pounds each. I'm blown away that the new ones could be 42 pounds.

Don't complain to Farish, it's Mike and Ben's fault!!!!

If the Revolution modern TEA weren't so superb, maybe Farish would never have retooled their older TEA and they'd be a lot cheaper.

Remember that the original TEA needed a lot of work with detailing bits to make it more realistic.

I'm being dumb here, but I assume the Farish TEAs are going to be the earlier versions, and not the same ones as RevolutioNs?

The Gulf livery was only used on the earlier tankers AFAIK, so not a duplication. Crazy prices still.

The first frameless bogie tank (90t capacity) was built in 1966.

By 1968 several companies were running fleets of 100t tankers (the maximum axle load was increased around the same time.

Initially they weren't very popular with the oil companies as being a bogie wagon they didn't cope very well with tight curves in some refineries. However, the increased load capacity over two 45t TTA type tanks soon changed their mind.

There's one in the National Railway Museum's (http://www.nrm.org.uk/ourcollection/locomotivesandrollingstock/CollectionItem?objid=1985-7053&pageNo=17&keywords=tank) collection (at Shildon last time I saw it).

Happy modelling.
