Title: Class 57 DRS and Coaches...
Post by: dude2112 on December 15, 2016, 08:26:17 PM
Hi all,
Me bezzy mate has bought me a Farish class 57 DRS loco and two half brake coaches off santa.
However, neither of us can find any other coaches by Farish to go with these. Did Farish do any more or are we into R3 resprays territory ?

Any help welcome.
Andy.

No DRS coaches, but the 57s haul all sorts - Pendolinos, FNA nuclear flasks (top and tailed), rail tours with mk1s or mk2s. Various TOCs mk3s. Or just run light engine, they're often off somewhere to rescue something.

Hi

Believe the DRS 57s did / do also run with the big IQA nuke wagons, a kit of which can be found here:

I believe those are the only DRS liveried coaches. They are not regular passenger stock, they are the Nuclear Fuel Escort vehicles...

There are (or certainly used to be) some DRS liveried Mark 3s but they have never been produced in RTR model form (and I'm not sure whether DRS still have them).

Also the DRS Mk2 sets + DBSOs are in DRS livery for the Cumbrian Coast but again never produced RTR.

Cheers, Mike

during the floods I think they push-pull DRS stock (Sellafield) Workington to Maryport (free service) , on the Carlisle Barrow line .

Yes - those were the Mk3s I referred to (DRS were planning a charter rake at one point). The DRS coaches in use now on the Cumbrian coast are 37s with Mk2s and a DBSO (originally pairs of 37s before the DBSOs were ready).

I've been inspired, and I've dragged out 3 Dapol mk3s I was keeping for such an eventuality, removed the glazing and primed them, ready for a coat of DRS blue tomorrow! Not sure if they should have blue doors or grey ones though. Can find photos of both.

Better order some decals!

Just a quick question:

I spoke to r3sprays last year at the Falkirk show and they were only offering DRS services from then on.  However, regardless they said they stopped doing N gauge repsrays a while back before then so it was ngauge transfers, no re-sprays for N gauge.  Is that still the case?  I didn't get the chance to ask at this years show?  Shame really as I think they're only a couple of streets along from my Mothers house so though I would have found someone I could have delivered and picked up from rather than doing it all remote.

I was holding back until the planned MK2s and dbso land from Bacfar, pretty certain r3sprays had transfers a while back  and railtec have something for M3 ocean liner rake that the mK3s started out on a while back.

Would hopefully also present a chance for someone develop some coaches eh.....

Sorry if these topics are some where else on here.

Andy.

Hi,
68s now mid Jan for OO models - dapol digest has production pictures and very tasty!
N models subject to shrink ray and re engineering as required so best bet a year away given production and tooling slots available , 50, BoB, pacer all outstanding but in progress per digest reports.

certainly having seen development progress at open day the livery looks spot on, I think full halo lighting will not be possible give size of model and DCC chip functionality will be hard to match up to real thing but hope the ability to fit sound will make it a game changer.

Looks like the OO one needs a 6-function decoder to do the halo lighting, which rules out any 6 pin offerings AFAIK. What about Next 18 though?

Hi,
Next 18 offers opportunities but I expect if it offers what is required it will be considered but I wonder about physical size of connection within the N sized shell.
On topic I have found some coach transfers which were R3spray but from a while ago not sure who originated them.

Mmm, agreed, I'm not sure it'll work that well in N regardless.

Railtec and R3Sprays do mk2 coach decals in N, and mk3 decals only in OO. I've ordered some R3Sprays ones to try for size on the mk3s. I recall that one of the DRS mk2s is a BSO, so one of the decals in the triple pack is probably shorter. We shall see! Don't know if they'll come up far too short anyway, a quick look at photos suggested they may be alright.

Probably a moot point, as with most projects I embark on they'll probably have scrapped the 68s before I get around to finishing them!

The Railmatch DRS blue is too light too IMO.

A thought i have had over christmas.........
I have the class 57 DRS as titled but am also aware that it did not come with any paper work or detailing parts like snow ploughs or pipe work etc.....

Sadly i have had a crap christmas due too illness but am also now informed that i cannot return to work yet  :unimpressed:
This is giving me too much dwelling time, not good. for me any way.

Can any one tell me if these items were provided and if so can i get replacements ?

Thanks as always Andy.
