@free debt man (http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;u=315) and @Calnefoxile (http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;u=619) were also in the mix.
Good luck to all for what will be a lot of hard graft.
Many thanks in advance.
This is very good to see.
I believe that many people join the NGS to have access to the kits and Modelmaster decals, and of course the RTR specials for members. With the price of RTR wagons constantly increasing the kits must surely have become a more attractive option than ever.
We have been told our society shop and it's contents were left in a mess, to use a clean four letter word. Sorting out the numerous kits must have been some task. When the kits are back to full strength/availability and rationalisation of the shop stock is achieved I imagine things should look up.
So, thank you guys for sorting the kits out.
Looks like they have all been shut in a deep bunker somewhere until the job has been done..
Seriously, this is great news. Much as I like the modern RTR stuff I still enjoy building the odd Society wagon kit - I find it can be very relaxing and the results very good - you get out what you put in.
I don't like to think how many of the NGS kit 1 hoppers I have built over the years...
Roy
out of interest, where IS this secret bunker ?
just about to retire myself ..........

Its secret!!!! If they told you that they'd have to kill you.... :) :laugh3:
Well done to everyone involved. I'm sure that this will please a lot of members, as the shop seems to be the main attraction - or certainly those who have raised concerns on social media.
The kits are being put together by the N Gauge Society Wiltshire 5 Towns area group; contact as per the Society newsletter is with Tim Hitch (Mirrlees)(last page of the news letter). The Bentley Model Railway Group at Calne Wiltshire have allowed us to use their brand new club room to put kits together. They are looking for new members of course. Please contact me for full details, by PM or on 01225 350465. The address of the club room is
15 Harris Road, Porte Marsh Trading Estate, Calne SN11 9PT
Anyone who would like to help the Area Group with kit building would be most welcome.
Now where did I put that sprue and the coupling spring? :worried:
Afraid Wiltshire is a bit too much of a commute from the Republic of Yorkshire......
Otherwise I'd have been glad to help.
A huge well done and thanks to all who HAVE got involved :thankyousign:
Likewise, a bit of a trek from here too.
This is wonderful. Great work everyone. Thank you, one and all. :beers:
:NGaugersRule:
Great news, thank you to all involved.
Great to see this - many thanks to all involved
I can appreciate the effort involved based on my own kit assembly.
There are fairly few kits in stock on the shop website... It's not clear on the shop site if things are sold out, or just not sorted out. Can someone shed light on whether this kit production activity means more kits will be back in stock when this is done? Or is it sorting out the kits that are already showing as in stock on the shop website?
Say, for example, is it worth waiting to see if 17a Cartic-4 comes back into stock?
Sorry if it's a daft question.
You know what I actually rather liked sitting in "the bunker" and sorting kits whilst talking N gauge for a few hours.
Ample tea and biscuits help too 😀
@Mirrlees (http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;u=340) , can you comment on the completion of kits to date?

As for the kits we decided to start on an easy kit to get ourselves going. We now have over 100 kit 1s. I'll be keeping 20 for stand stock and sending the rest to Gill at the shop. We also manage a small amount of kit 8s, and again I'll have 20 on the stand and the balance will go to Gill. We also sorted out some bogies. I will keep 10 or so and the balance to Gill. These at the 5'6" platebacks. These were most ones we had.
There is some bad news but not catastrophic news. The tooling for the coupling box (NEM and Spring) is damaged and we are awaiting repair. I'll keep everyone updated with that.
Good to see these pictures of a group effort, in a spru-ced room.
I know I speak for others when I say thank you for these pics and updates, it's appreciated.
To pick up on a number of the questions raised in this thread, no kits had been produced since October 2014 until this week so the stock as shown on the Shop website is correct. there is very little of anything.
I am reliably informed by the main man that 167 kit 1's were assembled at the weekend although they still need labels.
I would doubt if they will be listed on the Shop site before Christmas.
Subject to sourcing all the components we expect to have the full range of Society kits available in the coming months, both in the Shop and on the Display Stand.
As the person who has been making excuses to the members for the last 2 years I would like to thank Tim and his team for their valiant efforts and say "keep up the good work".

I think we probably have enough mains sockets in the new clubrooms.
I also see that you have also managed to get a OO gauge layout onto the N gauge forum.

I didn't want you to feel left out, Geoff.
This is indeed great news. I'm looking forward to being able to order some of the kits in the not too distant future!
:thankyousign:
Great to read this, a big thank you to all involved!!!
Kits 1 and 8 plus 5'6" plateback bogies are back on the Shop website with more to follow in the New Year.
Gill
Shop Manager
Excellent! Just ordered some bogie bolsters I've been waiting for.
Thanks again to all the volunteers!!!
Thanks Gill... updates here will be very welcome as things go back in stock.
:thankyousign: :bounce:
To those sorting out the shop stock - if you should happen across any damaged or part missing sprues for the kits, will there be any chance to obtain them? I in particular have a few bolster kit 8 wagons that could do with some replacement parts to refurbish them from a previous owners build.
A bit of a shot in the dark, but thought I'd put it out there!
Cheers,
Alan
Thats an interesting question Dr Al.
I could do with the ventilators to go with four NGS Meat vans.
We have certainly considered selling "spares" as has been suggested. We were thinking of a nominal set price of maybe £1.50 per item because there can be a tremendous amount of time involved in ferreting for the right components. The problem then of course is the dreaded postage cost. That has got to be at least another £1.50.
Gill
Shop Manager
Well done guys and of course Gill
Glad to see that you may find the light at the end of the tunnel at last
How about selling them at shows "by weight", like pick and mix sweets.
either prepacked or dive in and find.

Certainly still be of possible of interest to me - the wagons I have have the majority of the components reusable, so it seems a shame to junk them for the lack of some specific parts.
Or alternatively, offering the bare kit sprues minus bogies/wheels/couplings would also be of interest, and would save volunteers having to find specific parts on the sprues?
Thanks,
Alan
The only problem with that is that the items will move from our bit-box to a member's "bit-box" without actually being made available to the member who really needs them.
Having said that, the Committee will consider all options

Reminds me of when Huntley & Palmers used to sell broken biscuits cheap !
Best regards,

Any news as to recent progress with the NGS kits?
Kits 1 & 8 have been listed on the Shop site for some weeks. Kit 8 is almost sold out.
Missing components for many of the other kits have been identified and sourced and production has started.
As soon as they are available they will be listed on the NGS Shop at www.ngsjoin.com (http://www.ngsjoin.com).
Please be patient because everything is done by volunteers in time that they could be spending on their hobby.

I don't want to sound hasty, nor impatient as I'm sure ben line 457 didn't, I think the question is more around notification of new kits going on sale. I am grateful to all those helping, I would obviously offer my hand but NZ is a bit far to travel ;) a perfect excuse, but I personally don't want to miss out on kits that come up of interest to me because I don't recheck the ngsjoin site every week... anyway, keep up the good work, I'd send you all a coffee or cake or something but thanks will have to do!
Thanks Gill,
Good to know the gargantuan task is still in progress and thanks again to all involved.
Hope I didn't sound impatient but not being involved in the process directly its difficult to know what's happening without asking on this forum.
We had kits 1 & 8 re-launched - after a lot of hard work by a lot of people - in mid-December but from the outside at least nothing seems to have been said about progress since.....hence the question.
Thanks yet again to all who are working the kits, I look forward to more re-launches in the coming weeks. :thankyousign:
Just a posting to the news section of the main site will do when kits are put up in the shop in stock again.
Unfortunately, the web shop design is terrible for knowing what is in stock without clicking on every item, the alternative is to hide everything not currently in stock.
You should be able to disable links as part of the html standard. Maybe that'd be a better approach? That way people can see what would be available without having to click on empty items?
Last weekend.

Not to much to report but we are getting there!
I would like to thank @free debt man (http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;u=315) (Stuart), Roger and his wife Trish, Dave Thompkiss and Omar. A further mention is @Skyline2uk (http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;u=1081) (Adam) for his ongoing help with the kit tracker spreadsheet.

Transfers for kit 1? :'( :'( :'(
I'll check the stand stock as I think we have some NGST0002 - Kit NGSK0010 transfers.
The Stand is at Ali Pali and if we have them, then they'll be available for members to buy.
Cheers
The perfect solution for me. :unimpressed:
I give up. :headbutt:

When I have confirmed the amount I've got on the stand and how many wagons per kit each sheet of decals covers, then I could post them to you.
You would need to go to the following page and enter the amount that I advise.
Sundry Payment (http://www.ngsjoin.com/sundry-payment-1---20-139-p.asp)
Then got to the following page for postage :-
P&P (http://www.ngsjoin.com/delivery--pp-charge---orders-up-to-100-3343-p.asp)
Once I have got confirmation, I'll post the decals out.
Regards Tim
And the outcome of all this is: :claphappy:
Nothing, nada, zip. :headbutt:

I am still waiting as well.
