Title: R.I.P. Robert Vaughn 1932-2016
Post by: Newportnobby on November 11, 2016, 10:06:54 PM
Sad to report another fine chap gone. Folks of my age will remember him mainly from 'The Man from Uncle' TV series. The last thing I saw him in was 'The Hustle'.

Just heard that another 'great' has died. He was an excellent actor, starring in films like the original 'Magnificent Seven' and latterly, in the BBC series 'Hustle', in which he was brilliant. Another good talent gone.

With apologies to NPN - I did not realise that a post on the subject had already been started, (should have gone to Specsavers). Can a Mod amalgamate the two please?

Yeah, I forgot he was in the original Magnificent Seven movie. I have not seen The Hustle show. Will keep an eye out for it.

When I was a teenager, I somehow acquired a Man from Uncle card (I think I sent away for it). Anyhow the kids at school found out that I had it, and I was pestered every day for weeks by kids wanting to see my Man from Uncle card!!!  :worried:

Not forgetting his role with Steve McQueen in Bullit.

I was fortunate enough to be brought up on The Man from U.N.C.L.E by my dear mum who loved it as a teen and thus recorded all the episodes when they were repeated on 4 (I think) in the 90s. There was a couple of films too I believe (not including the recent re-make, which hasn't done well with critics).

She was a huge fan of Illya Kuryakin, but I always thought Solo was just a tad cooler.

What with his role as Albert in Hustle, and at least one episode of Columbo, I feel another huge part of my childhood has just gone  :(

RIP Robert, a great actor.

I had a set of MFU bubble gumcards.

The backs of the cards were printed like pieces of a giant jigsaw which when assembled format a black and white picture of our hero wearing a Prince of Wales check suit.

Didn't that bubble gum taste horrible ?

Best regards,

Joe
