While exploring avenues in layout construction I came across this interesting ;) idea from an article from 2008 that I'd not seen before. That cramped area I was considering for my layout need no longer constrain my imagination:
Look up! (http://metro.co.uk/weird/article.html?Upside-down_train_set_to_save_space&in_article_id=426793&in_page_id=2&in_a_source=)
:D
Yes - that's all news and not as I know it.
I reckon it's a new hat he's wearing.
This is what all our model railways look like in Australia. Just a bit odd that the man should be standing on his head to run it.

If his wife joins him, they could be double heading the locomotives.....
I imagine the layout is powered by an inverter...
:sorrysign:
:laughabovepost: ....an inverter..... nice one.
My old Triang locos used to have Magnadhesion..... wonder if they'd run on it :D
Apparently the idea works:

What a good idea for somebody who's I'll in bed . Build them a layout on the ceiling ,but what happens if you have a derailment and your very expensive loco falls down ,can you claim on your insurance for injury by falling loco ,if your insured by DIRECT LINE I suppose they might pay out.

£5,000 in patents... or a really, really nice shed... That and the cost of Chiropractors after a running session?
As Webbo says, nothing new; us on the 'underside' have been doing this for years -and WITHOUT magnets.... I'm just surprised that it has taken so long for the idea to return from the colonies... :)
I am surprised to find there is video evidence of the English patent holder's layout in action.
It turns out he couldn't overcome the turnouts problem, which might explain the ideas descent into the depths of obscurity. That and the awful editing of this video clip:

Perhaps he would have had better luck with N Gauge - less powerful magnets required perhaps. ??? But then there would probably be no point(s) in that either. :D
