Hi All,
I bought a CMX Cleaner before Xmas and have used it a couple of times but find it derails occasionally. I believe it is caused by the bogies / wheels as the wheels are quite bit smaller diameter than all of my other stock and also the wheel centres on the bogies are quite close together.
Could anyone recommend a replacement bogie?
Have any other owners had similar problems?
Regards,
Timmo
Hi
I've had problems with mine. Not so much derailing as the wheels popping out of the bogie simply because I think the CMX is so heavy that occasionally the bogie gives way and the wheels come out. I've not tried to replace the bogie yet though, so I'll be interested to see what others do.
Cheers
Kirky
Does the cleaner tend to derail in the same place on your layout ?
The couplers that come on the cleaner are the Rpido type & can bind from time to time or the top of the coupler box towards the center of the chassis is taller which can catch on the chassis underside.
One way i have found to solve it for a couple of modellers is to source trucks /bogies with the coupler box top level with the truck frame if they have larger wheels fine as long as you replace both trucks to keep things even dont forget about the overalll height though especially going through tunnels.
Microtrains trucks work well though you will need to have a converter wagon as well possibly if you run rapidos on your pushing loco ....... with these other types of trucks the centre hole of the truck will need enlarging carefully to fit / pivot smoothly
What seems to happen is that the wheels bounce up over slips and one truck will end up going the wrong way (against the set direction) but it happens randomly and over all points. No other stock I have misbehaves in this way!
I have a couple of Farish bits of stock I might have a go at butchering and will get back to you...
I've been using this rail cleaner for some time now, however initially I had problems with towing. Most locos just wouldn't shift it and those that did needed a helping hand through points etc.
I believed that the bogies were not up to the job with their teeny weeny wheels and replaced them with some old coach bogies (including wheels) out of my spares box and hey presto all my locos pull the thing around the track with little or any problems.
As far as I am aware the type of bogie is is your choice, as long as they are British outline type and fitted with the British larger wheels rather than than the American type supplied
Hope this helps
