I'm sorry to report that the forum has lost another member. Peter passed away at 12:15 today. He had gone downhill since DaveG and I visited the other week and was readmitted to the hospice at the weekend. His daughter was with him at the end. It's a sad loss as he was a thoroughly nice man, one I was proud to call a friend. I will post details of his funeral as and when.
A sad day.
I only had the pleasure of meeting Peter a couple of times at TINGS, but a warmer and more friendly man you could not hope to meet.
The hobby and the world has lost a real gentlemen.
My sincere condolences to his family.

Thank you for passing on the news, Malc. Going by Peter's last few posts, I guess many of us have been expecting this for some time.
I never had the pleasure of meeting him, but I wish I had. I always made a point of reading his posts as they were invariably interesting and often included questions that nobody else thought of. I always had the feeling that, if I had known him, I would have liked him immensely.
I am sure his family will be making a collection in his memory. I for one would like to contribute. Would it be possible for the forum to set up a fund that we can pay into, so that we can make one, hopefully large and generous donation?
In the meantime, please pass on my condolences to his family.
Chris
I only met Peter twice at TINGS but I PMd him a few times so I considered him a friend I Am sad that he has passed away and as Papyrus said I too would like to contribute a small amount if the Forum decides to start a fund ,and if Malc could pass on my condolences to his family I would be greatfull.
Bob
He was a good man.
I had the pleasure of meeting Peter at TINGS in 2015. A thoroughly nice man. We will all miss him and his entertaining posts. My condolences to his family.
I don't mind admitting to shedding a few tears at this unhappy news, especially as Peter was so kind in messaging me several times after my recent heart operation and made light of his own fatal illness :'(
I will never forget the rather large gentleman in khaki shorts, glasses, large hat and brown brogues who shook my hand vigorously at TINGS a couple of years ago ;D
My sincere condolences to Susan and the rest of Peter's family & friends.
R.I.P Good Sir
I'm sad at the news of our friend's passing.
He was a star here on the forum and I had the huge pleasure and privilege of getting to know him over the past few months.
We shall miss him.

Re donations
It's a bit awkward at the moment as Susan is obviously upset. Although we have been expecting this for some time, it still comes as a shock. She is going to let me know about the funeral arrangements and I'll bring it up then.
Should a donation be a little difficult to administer, perhaps we could consider a 'PCF NGF' award of some sort?
Dave G
Very sad news :(
I never got to meet him in person but had a few conversations with him on here.
He will be missed :(
Stu.
Amen to all the above. By the bye, what are the first three of 'PCF NGF' . john.
Such sad news. I didn't know Peter but he was such a gentleman.
Condolences to the family.

So sorry to hear about Peters passing he will be sadly missed.
I saw the title and thought "Oh no."
Very sad news.
What sad news to log on to this evening. All I can do is echo all the above posts and add some of Peter's own words of wisdom which appeared under his posts...
"Each can do but little, BUT if each did that little, ALL would be done!
Life is like a new sewer pipe, what you get out of it depends on what you put into it!
A day without laughter is a day wasted!"
Wise words indeed, Peter. My condolences to his family and friends.
As so many have already said, such a sad day.
Never met Peter, but participated in many of his threads and indeed he was a very polite and caring person indeed going by the various posts.
I was even more taken aback by his attitude when he became ill and was astounded how down to earth he was about it and never asked for sympathy. Despite such a crippling illness he still managed to drop a line on the forum from time to time.
I though he was, and still is, a real inspiration. Rest in Peace Peter
Steve
Ive thought long and hard this afternoon about what I would like to add to this thread as like all here I found Peter a gentleman and a pleasure to read via his posts.
Now having read through to already written thread I can only echo the thoughts and prayers of those who posted before me.
R I P Peter may you. your family and friends now find the rest and peace that's so long eluded you of late
That is very sad news, PCF was a gentleman of the first order,
his posts when was building his layout were terrific and
entertaining.
Although we knew it was inevitable from Peters own posts, it still a bit of a shock when you get the sad news.
Unfortunately I never got to meet Peter, but enjoyed reading his posts and like many others will miss his comments & exchanges.
Malc please pass on my condolences to Peters family and friends.
Ray
I never met Peter but like others enjoyed reading his posts. I can only agree with all that others have said about him - a true gentleman.
I was especially moved by the calm dignity with which Peter conducted himself after finding out he was so ill.
I too would wish to express my heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.
Roy
Gutted! I never met Peter but got to know him on the forum via post's and the odd pm. it is a very sad loss to someone I can only describe as a true English Gentleman.
I sincerely hope there is a massive ready made layout in heaven for Peter, that has no glitches or problems that he will enjoy running for eternity.
God Bless.
I'm one of the privileged that got to meet Peter at TINGS, and it was indeed a privilege. He was as jovial, kind-hearted and naturally funny in reality as he was on the forum. Had me in stitches relating his antics with the railway :D
RIP mate.

sorry, rather slow today.john
Sad news indeed, RIP Peter.
Such very sad news.
Met Peter at TINGS in 2014 and had a couple of conversations with him since. A real Gentleman in the true sense of the word. My condolences to Susan. We've lost a NGF member who lit up my life with his wit and insight.
RIP Peter.
Very sad news - always enjoyed his posts
I too never met Peter but enjoyed reading his posts. A true gentleman. My sincere condolences to all his family and friends.
Living where I do, I never met Peter. However we had quite frequent pm's and, like others, I know that if ever we had met up in person, I would have gotten on with him like a house on fire.
I lost a very good friend locally this week, and now I feel like I've lost yet another.
Very sad news indeed.
Even though we knew it was coming, to be actually told is such a shock. Like a lot of members, I only knew Peter through his posts and, because of his posts, I feel I did know him. I can not add anything to what has already been said.
Bless. sad news indeed; I really enjoyed Peter's input to the forum; he added some joy to our lives. Condolences to family and friends.
best wishes
Donald
Although I knew the end was nigh, this is still a terrible shock. Peter was larger than life and his most recent topics and posts showed just how much he cared for members here. RIP Peter.
I'm another one who never met Peter, but through his posts, felt that I knew him and he always came across as one of life's gentlemen.
He'll be missed
Pete @ EGLM
I was sad to hear the news, although it was expected. My condolences to hos friends and family.
I will miss his correspondence, on and off the NGF.

Very sad new...

I hate to hear of Peter's passing. His posts were always a delight to read and his input will be sorely missed here.

That's how i will remember him too.
A larger than life character with a great sense of humor,
My condolences to Peter's family and close friends. He will be very much missed....... :NGaugersRule:
Have only just read this.
Always a shock and so sad. I never met him but communicated in posts and he came across as a gentleman and a funny man. Reading the posts of people who did meet him he was just that.
A sad loss to the Forum and the World.
RIP Peter.
Will miss you, weave.
Very sorry to hear this sad news he will be missed by a lot of people
I will always remember the phone calls we had, usually when he needed help for one thing or another. Once the problem had been resolved, the rest of the call was always filled with the pair of us laughing our heads of by telling jokes, most of which could not be published on the forum, and Peter recounting humorous parts of his truly eccentric life.
Like everyone before me I shall miss Peter and may he be at peace.
This is sad news
I never met Peter, but I must say having struggled to actually start my layout. I found Peters posts
an insperation to carry on and not chuck the lot out.
R.I.P
Peter
I initially traded with Peter through eBay, and subsequently I had the pleasure of meeting him at TINGS.
I was very saddened to hear of his passing and my condolences go out to his family. I have fond memories of the chat we had on all things eBay and N gauge.
R.I.P Peter. A very sad loss.
I never actually had the privilege of meeting Peter but purchased equipment from him over the internet and via this website, not realising that he was probably selling due to his illness. From the transactions and our communications during it, I new instantly that he was a true gent. R.I.P. Peter.
I can only share in thoughts of the many, a sad loss.
Jerry
I thought I was about to read that he was recovering well, but I'm saddened to see what has happened. He was always a gentleman in his posts and supported the forum. Such a shame that he didn't get to show off the NGF Tour Coach on his layout, but he gave it a good try and I had hoped that we could send it back to him.
All the best up there Peter.
What can anyone possibly add to all the respect and kind wishes posted for Peter and his family.
Sleep well and pleasant dreams Peter...
Sad news. RIP, Peter.
Webbo
I can only agree a sad loss to the forum, condolances to his family.
Peter was one of nature's gentlemen. I never met him but I have the impression that he treated everyone with the same kindess and respect, whatever their background or position in life.
RIP
It's amazing that people can gain that impression from the internet.
To me, that speaks of the stature of the man.
RIP Peter.
Sad news indeed. My condolences to all Peter's family and friends.
Chris
Sad news, rest in peace Peter
Peter was like Andy Calvert in that he was able to communicate his personality and his enthusiasm for the hobby through his writing.
Best regards,
Joe
Oh no! I never met or communicated with Peter directly but enjoyed reading his posts. He'll be much missed and my condolences go out to his family and friends.
I have had details of Peter's funeral and where to send donations. His wife Susan sent this email.
Peter's Funeral will take place at 4pm on Thursday 20th October at Banbury Crematorium [Hardwick Hill, Southam Road, Banbury OX16 1ST]. In accordance with Peter's wishes this will be a nonreligious service followed by a few prayers for the congregation to reflect my faith. Family flowers only please but if you would like to make a donation in his memory, his chosen charity is the RNLI. This can be done directly or via Humphris Funeral of Banbury.
The service will be followed by tea at Aston le Walls Village Hall [Main Street, Aston le Walls NN11 6UD] to which all are very welcome.
I would like to take this opportunity of thanking you for all the cards and thoughtful words about Peter. They are much appreciated and have brought me and our family comfort at a difficult time.
Susan
Alas I have booked to go To York, so am unable to,make it.
My thoughts are with you all.
Nicholas Robinson
I will be thinking of him but I won't be able to attend although I would have liked to be there to pay my respects ,he was a real gentleman and he will be missed on the Forum .
Bob
I can only go along with all that has been said. RIP Peter
I can only say I am so saddened by the sad loss of Peter. I always felt Peter single handedly personified the NGF with his good humour and honest straight talking.
May his spirit live on in the good humour and sense of community that is the NGF.
Cheers
Kirky
I would like to remind members that Peter had an article entitled "I think I can, I know I can", in the NGS Journal. In it, he outlines the construction of his control panel.
He acknowledges the forum and Malc in the article.
The fact that it is in Issue 1/16, this year, makes his loss even more sudden.
I encourage all members who have that issue to have another read.
George
He eventually gave up on the control panel because his soldering wasn't very good due to a slight tremor. It might have been the start of his problem. I did offer to finish it for him, but he was determined that he wanted to do everything himself. DaveG and I did sort out a short on his layout and got trains running around, but when we went back to the layout a couple of weeks later, it was in bits as he wanted to add a turntable. I think that was the last time he went down to the shed as he started having giddy spells.
I have only just seen this thread, I met Peter once at TINGS, and enjoyed his posts. The NGF has lost one of its best, my condolences to his family.
Regards,
Alex
Sad to hear of Peters death. He was the sort of person everyone wants as a friend.
Really sorry to hear of Peter's passing. I have dealt with him on a couple of projects and admired his great humour and love of all things railway. A true gent.
I only knew Peter through this forum but he came across as a lovely guy, I thoroughly enjoyed his input and will miss it immensely.
RIP Peter
Mark
Very sad to read this news.
My deepest condolences to the family and friends of Peter. He always seemed to be very cheerful and was one of the most polite and friendly people I ever did meet.
I'm very saddened to read this. My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.
So sad that Peter has passed away
As someone who has experienced cancer all I can say is he was so strong over the last months. We should all be thankful for our health and remember Peter for his great character and grace.
Condolences to all of Peter's family and friends
Just a note to tell all the posters on this thread that I have copied their comments and will give a hard copy to Peter's wife Susan when I see her tomorrow at the funeral. I am sure she will be delighted to read all the kind comments you have posted about Peter.
Thankyou Malc I'm sorry I won't be there to pay my respect to Peter but as I've said many times me and my car are not up to traveling far nowadays .
But please pass on my thoughts to Susan .
I will have a quiet moment down my shed in memory of him and pay my respect to him that way .
All trains will stop running for one minute .
Bob

If it brings even the smallest comfort to her knowing how fondly Peter was thought of around here then that's good. Thanks for doing this Malc
Paul
I exhanged one or two PM's with Peter early on but didn't know him other than reading his posts.
Very sad news to hear his passing. One of those things we heard about maybe happening but I was shocked to hear it actually happened so quickly. My thoughts are with his family. They should feel very proud -he came across as a very brave man to me.
Regards,
Rich
Just a quick note about yesterday. DaveG and I attended Peter's funeral and wake afterwards at the village hall. We were warmly greeted by Peter's family who were all grateful that we had been visiting Peter for so long. Apparently we cheered him up and he looked forward to our visits. It was a moving, non religious ceremony with readings by his family and friends. DaveG sent Susan "Crossing the bar" by Alfred, Lord Tennyson and she included it in the ceremony. It was read by one of the villagers. It has special significance as they lived on the Isle of Wight for many years. As we said at the time, he will be sadly missed.
I forgot to mention that Susan was delighted to receive the print out of all your kind words and thoughts.
Thanks go to you and Dave for being there, Malc.
I wish I could have been with you.
It was a really nice farewell to a great bloke.
Thanks to Malc for sharing with you all.
Dave G
Just had another email from Peter's wife to say that her and the family were delighted to read all the kind comments that people had posted on this thread.
Hi Malc,
Thanks of sharing that. It's good to know Peter's family have taken some comfort from our comments.
Regards,
I've just received an e-mail regarding a couple of Peter's bodyshells that I had to work on. Unfortunatly, it was eaten by my spam filter before I was able to open it. Please can this be re-sent (Or PM'd via the forum). Thanks.
I am so late coming to this thread that I feel ashamed. I am so sorry to hear that Peter has passed.
I only ever met him once at the TINGS 2013 show. A kinder, more jolly chap you couldn't hope to meet. When I took the group photo on the Sunday, right at the last minute, he raised his hat in the air, and whenever I look at the photo, I remember him fondly.
I can't pretend that I knew him well, or that we talked regularly either face to face, or on this forum. But I am genuinely saddened to hear that he left us. My thoughts are with his family and his friends tonight.

@captainelectra (http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;u=9) Adam, did you get my PM on here or my second email?
Truly sorry to here this news albeit late.....Peter was one of the first people on this forum whose posts I read and whom I "got to know a bit" through reading them and corresponding a little bit...... :(
