Title: Any tips on removing cab windows?
Post by: NeMo on September 23, 2016, 12:08:29 PM
Hello folks!

Got a Farish Class 50 body. I'm wanting to remove its windows prior to repainting. Last time I tried this the windows all cracked. They seem to be glued in place (on the ceiling of the cab) rather than a simple push fit.

Any tips on removing the windows? Would it be possible to use masking tape on the windows, using a scalpel to remove surplus tape and spray over the windows?

Cheers, NeMo

What you need is masking fluid.

You paint it on, with a bit of card/ paper/string stuck to it. You allow it to dry, paint away and then remove the masking fluid by pulling on aforementioned device.

Used to use it a bit when doing plastic model kits.

That's really helpful; thank you!

Any brands you recommend?

I haven't used it for years and I couldn't begin to come up with a brand.

I suggest finding a good model shop or searching online.

Sorry.

Humbrol do maskol,  and Glue'n Glaze work.

You can always use the latter to replace broken panes.

Ah, I already have this! It's basically a very specific type of PVA as far as I can tell. Definitely worth a shot.

Hi , I recommend stuffing some tissue into bodyshell to stop overspray getting on inside of the glazing.

Maskol is just the stuff you want.
cheers
