Title: Bridges in the UK,
Post by: Oldman on August 20, 2016, 05:49:28 PM
Looking for ideas of bridgesto build on a layout.. Want to do a true representation of the original. Had originally thought of the Brittania bridge over the Menai straight but the pre70's bridge would just have been a big tube as such. The current one is only single track.
I don't really want to do a viaduct and w9uld like it to be double track for simpler train operations- large dogbone type layout with the loops partially hidden

My Dad came from the area and I remember this vividly from childhood holidays.

If the design is spectacular enough I would also consider a suitor flyover. Don't really want brick built..
Happy to consider all bridges incorporating rail up to a maximum of 900 feet actual length ( real size)

How about a swing bridge? There's a beaut at Oulton Broad. Couldn't find my pics on file, but did post them on a thread in the real railways section called something like "goodbye to semaphore signals"

There is also Banavie swing bridge which carries the W Highland line
over the Caledonian canal at Fort William.

It's a bit unusual but you could do something like this...

don't see many under construction scenes like this... the tracks underneath could be purely scenic

How about something smaller, but grand nonetheless. This is a bridge over the drive to Canford House near Wimborne in Dorset:

Seem to think there was a railway bridge somewhere that slid on the diagonal. Advancing years mean I can no longer remember where.

Another Dorset bridge, this one on the Swanage Raiway at Corfe Castle, in Purbeck stone.
