There weren't when I lived there a few years ago but there was (and hopefully still is) a really good art supplies shop in the road behind the one in front of the station. I mention that because it was a really good source of textured plasticard for architectural models etc. amongst other modelling paint supplies etc. So possibly worth a look.

Srangely I seem to remember that, but I left in 1974..... perhaps I'm hallucinating?

Probably not, I think it's been going for a long time.

I'd recommend the art shop too and you won't find a model shop in the town centre as far as I'm aware. A metro ride to North Shields or Kingston Park are the closest places I can think of. I can dig out the details if you want.

Gateshead isn't too far away so Pooleys Puffers is probably a good bet.............
