Title: What you need is shoe polish!!
Post by: austinbob on June 30, 2016, 09:19:37 PM
SWMBO visited dad at his care home yesterday. He's doing just fine.. SWMBO was leaving care home car park and decided to play dodgems with the only other car in the car park and got some minor scratches on the back of the car - as did the other car which was parked.
No real damage done but we informed the insurance company to be on the safe side.
Looked at cost of repair - loads of cash. Looked at insurance excess £350. Decided not to claim and live with minor damage.
Then...Brain storm (I have those about every 5 years!!). Use black (colour of car) shoe polish cream to rub over damaged area. Lo and behold - scratches disappeared for now. I'm sure the polish will wear off some time but, for now, you wouldn't know there was any damage.
So impressed with result I used misses navy blue shoe cream to hide scratches on my car. Perfect match in colour and, for now, scratches gone.

Brilliant!!!

:) :beers:

I had a similar experience a few years ago in that I queried incident with insurance company and did not claim. When renewal came my premium was increased because of incident. Although they did not pay out they still knew I had an accident! Hope you have protected no claims bonus.

Hi Chris. SWMBO has protected no claims bonus plus assurance from insurance company that no claim will be recorded if other party does not claim.

So have I but my enquiry was still counted against the total number of claims I'm allowed. Next time I'll make them do the repair.

I once came across a lady in a supermarket car park peering at a parked car with a very puzzled look on her face.

When I got out of my car she said " I don't believe it" she told me what had happened,  she was parking her car and had dented the adjacent car's plastic bumper. She wanted to leave a note for the driver of the parked car but didn't have any paper so she went to buy a notepad. When she got back the dent had popped out and there was no damage to be seen.

I assume the shoe polish worked well because the damage was on the boot ??   :sorrysign:
