Title: RIP Muhammad Ali
Post by: Sprintex on June 04, 2016, 06:08:09 AM
Not a fan of watching two geezers thumping the  :poop: out of each other so never seen him boxing, but Ali was one of the 'celebrities' of my childhood.

RIP The Greatest

I too am no real fan of boxing but so sad to see one of the sporting greats go.
He was not simply a boxer but a real character (something sadly missing in sport these days).

Agreed. Very sad.

Mid 1970s, he stayed at the hotel in London where my dad was a junior manager at the time. I was about 3 or 4 years old, but Ali had me and my parents visit him, and I even play-boxed with him for a bit. Obviously I don't remember any of this beyond what I got to see years later on the cine film my dad recorded, but my dad always spoke very warmly of him, and of how kind he was to everyone in the hotel. A true gentleman, of the sort that seem to be getting rarer every year.

Godspeed to you, Ali!

Cheers, NeMo

You boxed with Mohammed Ali at the age of 4? That's very cool!

To be fair, he won. Second round knock out.

A sad loss, one of the heros of my youth, not just in the ring but even more so out of it. His courage, intelligence and decency made the world a better place.

Very sad today at the news of Ali's departure. He really was The Greatest.
What a great era the 60s was--Ali, The Beatles, The Stones, Deltics and West Ham winning the World Cup!

My favourite "Ali Anecdote" is about when an air hostess asked him to fasten his seat belt.

Ali replied :

"Superman doesn't need a seatbelt"

The air hostess retorqued :

"Superman doesn't need an aeroplane"

That's one bout Ali lost !

Best regards,

Joe

The greatest boxer ever to step into a ring, funny when you think back to when Ali fought Joe Frazier, every electrical shop that sold TVs was packed with pedestrians to watch the fight, that included me,  I can only ever remember that happening twice before, that was when JFK got shot and when man first walked on the Moon, just proves how much people liked Ali.
