Title: Let's share Dapol's HST-P
Post by: ohlavache on May 21, 2016, 02:00:53 PM
Hello.
Dapol has announced this wonderful set made of 2 powered locomotives HST-P and 8 Mk3 coaches.
Even if the price is fair for all this rolling stock, £350 is very expensive. Furthermore, when you have a small layout as I do, 8 coaches are too many.
So I here propose to the forum members to share this set with me.
One of us would buy the set and then send the "subsets" to the other members. Shipping cost between members would be shared (with the exception of the additional cost related to the fact I live in France).
This is something I've already organized on Le Forum du N (http://le-forum-du-n.forumotions.net/) for Kato's CIWL set and REE Modèles' upcoming tank cars and it worked very well.

Here are the subsets I propose:

This sharing proposal is about the HST-P with the partial yellow ends, as the preserved locomotive.
Please tell me if you're in!
If you have different subsets in mind, feel free to propose. I tried also to be fair on the price distribution.
Have a nice week-end.

I would propose a the following bundles:

1) 41001 and the three "modern" Mk3s currently running in preservation (TS, TF, RFM), with orange cant-rail stripes.
2) 41001, 41002, Mk3 TS and TF
3) 41001 with full yellow ends as running in Departmental use with Mk3 Test Car 10 in RTC Red/Blue
4) 41002 as above but as a power car only

These would cover a much wider time period and give more opportunity for those with small (or no) layouts /tighter budgets to enjoy this model. I daresay that there would be much greater chance of these sets reaching the pre-order target.

Why would someone want one power car though...? ???

I'd like a single power car -one was used to power for Derby RTC test trains. If you want to recreate the recent runs of the surviving power car then again, you only need one.

Happy modelling.

Cool, didn't know that, presumed they always ran as a pair. As you were.

Here's a recent shot of 41001 on the Nene Valley Railway. To comply with modern safety regulations it has modern OHLE warning signs and an orange cantrail stripe.

I can forgive that for the sheer amazingness of having a Valenta-powered HST running again!

This is exactly the point of my proposal.
Since single power cars won't be available from Dapol, those who want only one need to share a set.
And the Mk3 coaches also need to find takers.

Here I'm looking for partners for a "partial yellow ends" set.
I left the preserved road number to increase the chance of success.

Does anybody know if both cars are powered, the HST sets weren't and there hasn't been as far as I know any confirmation of this from Dapol. Just a thought.

Has everyone here sent an email to Dapol expressing interest in an APT-P?

They need 700 expressions of interest to go ahead.

I have sent my expression on interest to Dapol which has been acknowledged, so fingers crossed this gets the go ahead.

I wonder if they have set some sort of rough deadline as to when they will decided we have had enough time to shout and say we want this made!! :)

In preservation it usually runs top-and-tail with a diesel anyway, so someone getting the unpowered 'half' could just use a suitable Class 47 in BR blue to power it

My understanding from Dapol's form is that both are powered.

I did ask Dapol about this - response was that they might consider it in future.

I don't know where they got this 'HST-P' phrase from - I've never seen it used before.

No one to share with me an HST Prototype with partial yellow ends.  :'(

Is it the same for an HST Prototype with full yellow ends (Departmental use) ?
That's my second choice, but if it allows me to find a sharing partner that's fine.

I'm not convinced the full yellow ends variant is actually a valid livery for the whole train - so far as I know they were painted like this in departmental use, after the set had been disbanded, and therefore didn't run with the matching trailers.
