Hi all, I ordered myself a new class 31 from Gaugemaster a few days ago, and when it arrived yesterday the box was correct but it had the wrong loco inside. :confused2:
This is what I ordered:
http://www.ehattons.com/59367/Graham_Farish_371_111_Class_31_D5596_in_BR_Green_with_Small_Yellow_Panels/StockDetail.aspx (http://www.ehattons.com/59367/Graham_Farish_371_111_Class_31_D5596_in_BR_Green_with_Small_Yellow_Panels/StockDetail.aspx)
And this is what turned up:
http://www.ehattons.com/59366/Graham_Farish_371_110_Class_31_5826_in_BR_Green_with_Full_Yellow_Ends/StockDetail.aspx (http://www.ehattons.com/59366/Graham_Farish_371_110_Class_31_5826_in_BR_Green_with_Full_Yellow_Ends/StockDetail.aspx)
I also ordered 3 peco R1 double curves and got those 3 plus 8 held together with elastic bands. They were in a box meant for 16 so I'm assuming someone took what they thought was an empty box and put my 3 in without checking if there was any still inside.
Definitely one of the more interesting reasons why I have had to send a train back. ::)
I think I can beat that...
Ordered two Farish Mk2 coaches.
Got five (5) Dapol Class 27s.
Sadly, my conscience got the better of me, and I returned them...
Cheers, NeMo
Not train related, but I ordered well over a Grands worth of laptop from John Lewis and they sent me TWO laptops. Being honest I sent the extra one back.
All this is giving me a smug feeling that I don't do online shopping very often.
I bought a pair of boots from a shop in Oxford St some years ago, trying on a display one for size and going home with a new pair in a box.
There was a problem though so I rang the shop.
"Hi I've got a problem with the boots I bought today"
"The right one is all right. "
"Problem is the left one is all right too. Have you got 2 left ones in a box there by any chance?"
:)
Happily swapped out next time I was in town :)

Originally this may have been correct but, sadly, class 31s can and do suffer from 'creeping jaundice' disease so what may have started off as a small yellow panel became a fully custard dipped version while sat on the shelf for some months.
Lamentably there is no known cure so it will have to go back to the supplier and you must request a non-diseased replacement.

".. a non-diseased replacement ..."
Or even better, a non-diseasel replacement? Steam outline models are immune to "creeping jaundice" but they do sometimes suffer number reassignment if left on the shelf too long! :o

Evening,
I think I would be pleased if I received a green full yellow end loco vice a green small yellow panel personally.
And especially ones with BR arrows :)
But the ones that I really don't get are blue with small yellow warning panels. I saw a picture of 46045 painted like this recently (not sure if it really ever did get painted like this, as I've never seen a picture of a peak in this condition?).
I suppose I could make an exception for D1733, which really did look the part.
Cheers
Paul
Hey what do you expect when the packing is being done by low paid Chinese workers who probably do not have a good command of English and there is little or no quality control it is just another result of cost cutting. >:(

Given the batch-production methods, If this is a one-off example I expect it to be VERY UNLIKELY to be a factory packing fault... If the whole batch was wrong then yes blame the packers - the line has been fed the wrong boxes, but an isolated one-off case as this appears to be is far more likely to be the retailer's (Gaugemaster's) fault...
They've had two out of the boxes to test, or one of each on display, and when repacking the boxes have got swapped over...

I do not think that the Liverpool Packers were to blame!
Nah - it was them pesky Green Bay Packers. Cheeseheads ::)

I've had that happen once when buying some coaches which were on display... didn't notice until I got home (half-way round the world) that they'd put one in the wrong box, which presumably means someone else will have got the wrong box too.
Not quite the same content but a very apt header.
What happened to the Farish sleepers BR Mk1 SLSTP Sleeping Second Maroon [374-925A] and BR Mk1 SLF Sleeping First Maroon [374-926A] on the Hattons website? I had them on my wishlist order and suddenly, despite them appearing on the Farish website a few days ago, Hattons marked them 'Not Available'.
I queried this with Hattons who replied "Unfortunately this item has now been continued [sic] therefore we will no longer get it in to stock". I then pointed out that the were available from Rails of Sheffield and received the following reply "Unfortunately I do not have an update on why we do not have any available or even on order, however I will pass this onto my colleague who will be able to give you an update on this and get some into stock for you." I'm still awaiting a further reply.
All very odd and a major cockup I would say. Brian :confused2:
PS I prefer to deal with Hattons since their postage to New Zealand is always cheaper than Rails. B

That was gone over in another thread very recently... Again people were shooting first before asking questions blaming Farish when it actually turned out to be a Computer glitch at Hattons...

I read those posts and the subject was rather different. And I wasn't shooting first or blaming anyone, least of all Farish. I'm sure that it is a computer glitch at Hattons but they hadn't spotted it and still haven't replied. :unimpressed:
Many years ago I bought an artificial Christmas tree in Argos. The assistant handed it over the counter to me. It had a nicely tied ribbon round it. I thought it was an attempt at seasonal gift wrapping. It was so light that I gave to my wife to carry, and I had the heavy shopping bag. Back home I opened the box to find that I had bought an invisible Christmas tree. Back to Argos, and the assistant told me I should not have accepted the box as it had a ribbon round it which was Argos's code for an empty box with the contents on display somewhere in the store. Anyway the "replacement" tree is still in regular use, and weighs a ton. Worse still it is getting heavier every year especially when I load it back into the loft in early January.

Fancy not knowing that, Mike ::) Your fault, then ;) :P

Reply from Hattons today: "I have now spoken to our Inventory Manager and we now have both of these models on order from Graham Farish and if you would like to pre-order these this can be done on the links below .... I am sorry for the confusion with these models and if there is anything else I can help with please do not hesitate to let me know."
Not a word of gratitude or thanks for helping them to maintain their stocks and protect their good name. I might just buy them from Rails out of principle >:( Brian
