Title: Help with Dapol Megafret wagon
Post by: Drtgb on March 18, 2016, 10:22:19 PM
Hello all, this is my first post and I need help. I bought a dapol n gauge megafret wagon set. The drawbar connectors seem to be missing from the set, can anyone advise where I can get spares? Its for a present and time is short. Thanks, David

Did you buy it in a shop shop, or online? Contact the retailer in the first instance, but they may not be all that quick if it was online.

You get two in the bag, I may have some spares still. How quickly is it needed?

I bought it online. The guy who sold it me has said I can return it, but i'd rather sort it it as it's the livery I wanted.

Just so I know, I presume they are similar the real thing? Just connect underneath the platform? The set has three megafrets in. Can you send a pic. I'm trying to get hold of them asap.

3 pairs? It's the Malcolm Logistics set presumably?

They look like this:

They're the same colour as the wagon, so Megafret ones are light blue. You're sure they're not hiding in the box?

It is Malcolm set. I work for them. Definitely haven't got any of those in the box, I've been hunting online to find them.

njee20 beat me to it.
However the ones he show attach to the body slightly differently (I find them easier to lose but easier to fix and harder to break). The link is slightly different so I Don't know if it would work.

If you do have Malcolm Containers they are identical as I have shown below (I just happened to pick up a less co2 over a Malcolm)
----

The coupling is Light Blue in colour with a short bar with a loop at either end.

I haven't come across spares in my travels online. One suggestion would be to try asking in model shops which stock Dapol Products.
It may be possible to fashion some out of wire if you are in need of a quick fix.

The loops clip over the bump on the non buffered end of the wagons.

They are easily broken. I find it best to use a set of tweezers to assist me in putting them on and to place the containers and wagons upside down like this to fit/remove them.

Gap between the wagons.

Guys, I wish I had found this forum earlier this week. Great knowledge and help. I thought they may look similar to that, I see enough of the real things every day! Now just to track some down.

If you struggle do shout, I may have some spares still. I bought all mine second hand and they didn't all come with two, so not sure if I've still got any left - as Dave says, they don't really like being used repeatedly, better if you can leave the wagons on the track.

Guys, the source I thought I had didn't have any available. Still awaiting to hear from one more option. Disappointed Dapol couldn't help. Any other ideas welcome.

Have you had a go at making some from thin brass wire?  They maybe could tide you over even if not the preferred solution.

Cheers Jon  :)

I'll have a look in the cave later - I think they came in two lengths - use the one that fits the radius...  I'll see if I can measure up...
