Title: R.I.P. CLIFF MICHELMORE
Post by: Newportnobby on March 17, 2016, 09:53:57 AM
I was very sorry to hear of Cliff's passing away as, me being of a certain age, he was hardly off the television during my formative years. A great shame he didn't reach the 100 but he came close.
I see he wrote a book entitled "Cliff Michelmore's holidays by rail in Great Britain" so I may try to obtain a copy.
Bye, Cliff :goodbye:

This is a bad year, innit.  Guess we're next.

Yeah I grew up with him and remember him hosting all sorts of programmes, including what was probably TVs first holiday advisory programme back circa 1970.

However, I will always remember him as anchorman to Patrick Moore and James Bourke during the Apollo lunar missions.

Was Cliff not one of the very first current affairs presenters on TV when you had to wait for the valves in the TV to warm up.

RIP Cliff

Didn't he narrate the Spaghetti harvest?

Gosh the spaghetti spoof really takes me back...I had to look it up, but it was actually Richard Dimbleby narrating, it could have been Cliff though!

I can remember him introducing a Holiday (79?) segment on canal boat holidays which enthralled my sister, my father and me. Suffice to say we enjoyed many such holidays and my father even bought a canal boat a few years later!

Thanks Cliff. RIP

That's right! That travel show was called Holiday. Jeepers, I even remember Holiday 69! In fact that might have been the first series. It had very catchy music, I seem to remember.

Thanks for the memory jog, Mike!

Like many of us, I grew up with Cliff on the box in the Tonight program.

He came across as an ordinary chap doing a great job. Him and Cy Grant who did the 'topical calypso' and a whole bunch of others are indelibly imprinted on my memory.

Also remember Cliff's wife, Jean Metcalfe, who presented Two-Way family Favourites on steam radio.
