Title: Flying scotsman - Class 91 set
Post by: MrDobilina on February 25, 2016, 01:01:01 PM
Hey guys,

feel free to move this if you think it should be else where.

Whilst watching this mornings videos of the Flying Scotsman taking her first passengers since the 60's I noticed that on platform 0 of Kings Cross there was an unusual Virgin pendolino.

I was wondering if anyone had seen anything about this train and if a N gauge model of it might be coming at all?

I'd also love to find somewhere that stocks the graham farish Flying Scotsman model as I've seen a few images of it batted around, but none in stock.

It's not a Pendolino, it's a class 91+mk4 coach set and has been in that livery since November last year...

The old Farish A3 model is no longer produced so you are very unlikely to find one new though they do come up fairly regularly second hand - there is now a much more accurate model from Dapol, and they have done FS but it sold out very quickly and again, you are probably going to have better luck with the usual second hand sources...

Thanks for the info PLD.

Guess I've been out of the loop in main line liveries living in Lincoln and not going south that much.

Shame the farish is out of production, IMHO it looks nicer than the dapol one's I've seen.

When I read the title a mist of nostalgia crossed infront of my eyes :-
" Flying Scotsman rescues Pendolino "

A broken down Pendolino being steam hauled back to base, that would have been real "back to the '60s" stuff of legend, thanks for the whimsy MrD

Thinks,,, am I too late to order an N Pendolino to go with my Duchess of Hamilton ?  :laugh3:

Flying Scotsman hauled her FIRST passenger trains at the East Lancashire Railway 9/10 and 16/17 January. She was overhauled at Ian Riley's Loco works on the East Lancashire Railway.
The 2 weekends were immensely popular.

Are you sure you're talking about the same engine we're talking about ? ::)

I am talking about the A3 as I thought the first post was.

Er - no :)

The first post (and the title too) is more about the Class 91 using the FS name, with a sideways mention of the A3 model.

There is a separate post on the FS's current "first" run since restoration, which you seem to be on about.

Er but yes & no :)
It is true that there was a sideways mention of a model,
but there was also, earlier in that op a sideways (not my word ! :) ) mention about its first passengers

Thus I think it reasonable that we allow PW to make his clarifying comment here and not to shunt him sideways to another thread ? :)

Unmentioned so far anywhere very recently is the usual stuff in the media about it being the first to reach 100mph, of which there is considerably doubt, I dont have the ref. to hand at the mo. but I am sure someone near here, (who mentioned it some weeks ago on this forum) has it ?
Not that I would want to disturb the thread any further , ,
tiptoes away quietly, ,
:uneasy:

Well, if we're being really pedantic - the A3 FS has surely pulled passengers in the 70's, 80's and 90's ?  <rummages around>  Yup - early 70's under Pegler, then mid 70's though mid-90's under McAlpine, followed through to early 00's under Marchington.  And a couple of years under NRM.  And the vast majority were paying passengers too :)

So totally untrue  :D

The "Flying Scotsman" Branded 225 was revealed a recently (end of last year) when Virgin took over. East Coast originally put all the stickers on the side and virgin remade them in their own image.

As for if Farish will Bring one out i don't know the answer but I would Buy One!
Limited edition idea A3 "Flying Scotsman" and support coach and Class 91 "Flying Scotsman" and DVT!

(Note this article gets confused with itself, the Diesels mentioned are the HST which are getting refurbished at Craigentinny outside Edinburgh, the 225's are Electrics)

Trying to clarify my comments.     The original post -  I was not sure about whether the poster was talking about the A3 or the class 91 either so I assumed he was talking about the newly restored A3. I too was not sure what the reference to the 60's was about, but to clarify, the first public passenger train the newly restored Scotsman hauled  following it's latest re incarnation was on 9th January 2016 at the East Lancs Railway.

If you fancy having a go... I'm sure Adam at Electra Graphics would be able to knock up some vinyls for a 91 and Mk4 set in Flying Scotsman/Virgin livery.

Cheers
Mark

I've got the Virgin 91s and Mk4s about ready now and will have a go at the FS version at some point.

I can supply the previous East Coast Maroon version of 91101  :)

What kind of cost would that be at? I'd love to (at some point in the coming year) have a 91 FS! Not that I have any track down yet >.>
