I'm looking for a bit of assistance from the computer experts out there please.
We have super fibre broadband from PlusNet which has been superb.....until about a week ago.
We have 2 laptops which worked well until recently.
Now the internet connection is VERY slow and some websites just won't open or are intermittent.
I phoned PlusNet who tested the line with no problems found but they suggested interference from other people locally could be the problem and that I should alter the router channel. Having done this (3 times now) there is no real improvement (if any).
I've also shut down and restarted the router.
Our iphones work as normal connecting via wifi as does my ipad and we experience no problems with those devices.
Any ideas ?
Nothing else has changed. I wonder whether some form of virus (or similar) could be responsible ?
Both laptops run Norton by the way.
I'd be grateful for any suggestions.
Plug a laptop directly into the PN unit, and use the BT Wholesale speedtest. Make sure you save the results (it prompts you). If you aren't getting a good up/down speed (you don't say what version of the fibre BB you are buying) in line with your expectations, then you can call 'em again & point them to those stats ...
Wireless BB within a house can suffer from various issues; always run this check hard-wired into the unit.
Now ... if only your laptops are seeing this issue - I'd suggest d/loading a good A/V product like Avast & run a comprehensive check. Also think about installing a different browser (Firefox Portable would be ideal), & see if you get the issue there ...
Many Thanks Mike.
I've done a speed test and am happy.
Changed to Firefox and what a difference !
Running as normal now (I had been running IE - any ideas why that would run slowly).
I'll istall Avast later and run some scans . Do you recommend the free version ?
If all continues to behave, I'll change the other laptop later. Thanks again.

Use an application like InSSIDer
You can then view the frequencies of your own router and those in range
You can then change the frequency on your router and compare
Look at the IP addresses being allocated to each device
You may want to change and fix these, and then exclude all others
As an example
My printer end .99
My laptops use .11 and .21

Could be a number of things; recent changes from MS, dodgy site d/loading something into it, etc. If the latter, hopefully a fresh a/v product may find it, but also look at something like SpyBot.

That's the one I use; quite happy with it.
Glad things are settling :D

Most likely cause is some crap that has managed to get itself onto the system.
As regards scanning, the free version of AVG is good (free.avg.com), and I'd also recommend superantispyware - if you install both of those and run a full scan they should find anything lurking.
You could also try resetting Internet Explorer to its default settings (instructions here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/923737), but as someone else has already noted, Firefox is generally better anyway so it's probably as well to stick with that as your main web browser/
