Title: S&D Jinty
Post by: MalcolmInN on February 12, 2016, 03:47:25 AM
In this thread we spoke of Valentine gifts
http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?topic=31816.msg363577#msg363577 (http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?topic=31816.msg363577#msg363577)
so I thort an S&D Jinty would fit the bill for her (she and daughter are fond of the S&D :) )

but it (BachFar, yes I know it never had S&D blue in real life but rule1 ) seems only available as DCC in a set :

is that the case ? seems odd that BackFar would go to the trouble of making a loco model and then limit their sales to sets only
(especially as   I  !she would need to ditch the dcc bit as well !)
I have bought splits from Cheltenham in the past, but they list "on order" "out of stock" for this one :(

You are correct that the S&D Jinty has only been released by Bachmann in the set, however you see almost as many advertised singly, the sets having been split up. Buying these from a reputable dealer should not be a problem (but make sure you get the warranty card with it)

Yes it is DCC fitted, but you don't need to "ditch the DCC bit" - the chip fitted is programmed to allow normal use on a non-DCC layout.

As PLD has said, these are available fairly readily singly. I have a couple albeit converted to 2FS  and very attractive they are too. Also, you don't need to apply rule one as they were delivered to the S&D in unlined blue livery. It's the collectors club 4F in blue that is a bogus livery - I also have one of those and apply rule one for that!

On the DCC point whilst you can run them on DC with the chip in I would always recommend taking it out. Mine came with a blanking plate so a job of a few minutes.

Thanks Jerry, indeed, I was confusing myself orribly !

Thanks guys,
I'll have to do more looking about, Cheltenham is the only one I have seen so far, doing splits,,
any suggestions for retailers to watch for this sort of thing now and for the future ?

Thanks David, will be watching that one :)
