I'm due to replace my current canon IP4500 printer.
I need a printer that can print on card (upto 260g).
The best printers for this have a rear feed option. All the printers I've looked at don't have this option.
What do modellers who download kits use?
Any help would be appreciated.
I use a Epson XP-305 it can handle up to 255 g/m, is a scanner/printer/copier is WiFi as well as USB, uses 4 separate cartridges (BCYM) which can be bought cheaply from most ink cloners.

Can't quite do 260gsm, I can do up to 230gsm on my OKI colour laser, although I rarely print to card, I print onto A4 label stock (one A4 sized label per sheet) and stick that to the card.
I use a plotter cutter to cut the card, quicker and no sore wrists. I can cut the card with the label already on or if the printing contains detail like quoins or fancy window surrounds I prefer to cut plain card then stick the printed label on, I find that easier than faffing about setting the cutter registration to be extremely accurate.
Cutting an A4 sheet with walls for two 6 house terraces takes less than 10 minutes, that includes all door and window openings, typically 24 doors and 72 windows. This is the outline that the plotter cuts, I drew this up to take Peedie models etched doors and windows, easy to change for different sizes of openings (sorry there's an error on the bottom half building, uploaded the wrong image, all 4 should be the same, but you get the idea)

Sorry for bending the thread away from the original question. Mike, as previously discussed, I believe you use a Zing cutter. Can I ask if you use the software (Make The Cut!) that came with it to make your drawings. If not, I would love to know how you work with the machine. I am finding MTC to be a bit coarse in use.
Back on track, I also use an Epson. It's the SX435W. The paper/card goes through around 45 degs. as it travels through the machine, not quite the straight through path that is ideal for this application. However, while I can't say what the thickest card I have ever printed would measure out at, I can print on over 200 gsm with no problems. Remember however, with a paper path that is NOT straight through, the stiffness of the card is also a limiting factor.

Following on from my question to Mike in the above post, he has sent me two AMAZINGLY detailed PM's with 'how to's' on the methods that he uses to make his buildings.
I wanted to say thanks publicly for them. So typical of the general attitude of the members of this forum.
Thanks Mike, if I ever do make it down your way you are on for a glass or two if you wanna...
Regards, Allan..... :thankyousign:

I agree with Allan. I bought an OKI colour laser on @Dorsetmike (http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;u=2855) recommendation and it works a treat. Best thing I've bought in ages. You can do back scenes on it (I use 900 mm long banner paper). It's great. (Uses Tony the Tiger voice here)

perhaps you could copy them here?
I can probably improve on them a bit, maybe a screen shot or two, however I won't be able to do anything until Monday 8 Feb, I'm currently getting stock ready for the Bournemouth show Feb 6/7, running in, wheel cleaning, general fettling.

I must admit I'm not familiar with any image editing software apart from the ancient Micrografx Picture Publisher which I've been using since V2 in 1992, now on V10 of 2002 vintage, does all I need, ain't broke so why fix it? Most of the work can no doubt be done in other image editors.
Dorsetmike, a new thread in the knowledge bank would be great. We can all learn from you!
As far as the OP is concerned, I use the same technique as Dorsetmike of printing on sticky labels and using cornflake packet card. I still cut out by hand, but need to get to grips with my Cameo cutter yet.
My printer is a Canon Pixma MG5300 - i wasn't happy with the colour balance on my previous Epson or HP. The Canon gives nice crisp colours with good saturation and fine dpi. The 5300 has a rear tray, but the feed is downward and not straight through. No idea what gsm it will take, but i use the rear tray for the labels.

I was about to say that I would ask Mike if it was OK to do that when he posted his offer to do so - with improvements too!
It would be best to wait for that to happen rather than have two versions of essentially the same information.
Very generous offer there Mike, I am sure there are a lot more than just the ones on this thread who will be awaiting that post with great interest. Here's a big thank you in advance anyhow...
