Post by: davieb on December 18, 2011, 08:02:07 PM
hi all

is there any way to remove the moulded wipers from the farish window mouldings  ???

i dont fancy starting scraping away at them only to destroy the mouldings  :'(

any help would be greatly appreciated  :)

the only way I could think of would be to slice off with a sharp blade, but you are still going to be left with the marks where they were.

many years ago when I was making model aircraft I read a tip that to polish scratches off cockpit canopies you could use toothepaste with a tissue or ear bud.

never tried it myself, but if you can get a piece of scrap clear plastic and try it, you might find it would remove the marks.

failing that, you could replace the glazing with krystel clear  [I think that's the name] by microscale, and there may be other makers as well.

cheers

Hi all

I have finally managed to remove the wipers from a Farish Class 40 window molding  :laugh3:

I did it by first carefully cutting the wipers off with a brand new craft knife blade
then polished them with one of these

I was a bit nervous at first but as i had a couple of spares i thought i would give it a go

i smoothed off the windows with the course part of the stick then the medium grade

then polished the result with the finest part of the stick

Here are pics of the result  (original on the left)

hope this is of use to someone out there
