Title: USB Type C connector
Post by: daveg on January 13, 2016, 05:28:22 PM
Just seen the announcement about this type of cable.

I had the idea in my head that the 'universal solution' was going to be a standard USB to micro USB. Obviously I'm out of date with yet another variant coming at us.

Can someone with much more knowledge kindly explain?

I think you're confusing USB Types ?

Type A is the adapter you use @ your PC/laptop; Type B is the plethora of variants on the other end of that cable for devices.

Type C will replace the both Type As and Type Bs with a single adapter - well probably apart from Apple stuff as they are always putting on a different plug !  There'll be Type A-C cables as well ... just to confuse matters  ::)  Oh, and adapters for the Type B variants.

Seems to be reversible, able to handle power in either direction as well as handle video !  Runs data @ 10Gbps too ...  Will it catch on ?  That's a different question ...
