Apart from the usual 'oddball' presents such as twee (and probably foul tasting) biscuits/Irish Cream flavoured Truffles (not the proper stuff), the main Christmas haul was composed of a wad of vouchers for my fave model railway emporium. This is something I have trained everybody to do until further notice so anything else is just 'padding' :D

A Dapol Britannia 7000 with tender, BR late crest from SWMBO and number one son. plus some Ratio kits, Cattle Dock, Footbridge and telegraph poles, lots to keep me amused for a few hours in the shed.
Others were a bottle of 12yr old Spey side, an olde worlde train poster calendar, and a ladybird book for adults entitled "The Shed" quite humourous book written in the style of the old kids ladybird books.

A visit to the outaws tomorrow may result in more train related stuff  :claphappy:

I got a puncture in the car tyre and being all there is to fix it is a can of slime and no spare I am stuck until the middle of next week while the tyre firms have a festive break  >:(  hoping the can of slime keeps it inflated till then as stupid car has no jack or wheel brace to take wheel to garage to get it sorted. Bah humbug.

The closest I got to rail is a mug/coaster set of famous locos (with a very strange colour-set ... Duchess of Hamilton in scarlet with purple smoke deflectors, anyone  ???  Or a Mallard in purple  ???), and a very nice book about 'male chicken' (changed by forum) o' The North

SWMBO got a Lizzie in OO, with all the YouChoos bells & whistles (or it will have when I get the time to fit more than the sound decoder !!!)  ::)

Hi ,
Santa in the form of PO and CJM kindly delivered, for opening today a class 59.
59003 in GBRf - thanks santa !!
A lovely hamper from work friends revealed cakes, jams and bickies , I hope to use hamper for its picnic role at Telford in Feb.- tizer and sarnies !  doing a little stand in N for track and 3D print developments on my work bench.. with only 6 foot I can only take a few bits to work on...

Hope all got most of the plans and you enjoyed the day - modelling can recommence once polite to do so. ...

My main railway present was from the Dark Side-a Hornby J15 to go with the 'Claud' I got for my birthday. I added the vacuum pipes, steam heat pipes, headcode lamp and a crew whilst the Boss was cooking dinner. (I did also glue down a platform that had started to lift on my layout).
Fear not, both are just for display...for now???? ;)

No railway stuff,  but a lovely new Seiko watch. Seeing as it's only the third I've had since me 21st birthday, this one should see me 'til I cark it  :D

Loads of non railway stuff including the recently released DVD of "The Ipcress File" - the film that established Michael Caine as a major movie presence after his role in "Zulu". It is probably my all time favourite film and it has been digitally remastered and has a separate disc of goodies related to the film and its making.

The only railway pressie was the Ancorton kit for two farm wagons - I'd specifically begged for this as one will sit in the open fronted shed on Guvnor's field on Tintern.  it is an amazing little kit, the wagon wheels in particular being a masterpiece of laser cutting. I'll probably post a review when I get round to building it.

I hope everyone had a good Christmas and all the best for the New Year.

No locos but then I didn't ask for any.
A rather nice bottle of single malt. Having sampled same this evening I can say it is most agreeable.
Lots of tree making materials which will be used to populate my new layout with over 100 trees early in the new year.
A couple of radio control receivers for garden railway projects.
And a couple of interesting railway books.

I usually get money as I can decide what's best to spend it on. In any case the models I'm interested in aren't yet released.

It's years since I've received anything model railway-related.

Oxford modern fire engine
Metcalfe bus depot
Farish nuclear flask plus 3 dcc decoders
Also an iPad mini which will be used with my birthday pressure, which is a Roco Z21. That's on the 30th, so not long to wait.
My grown up kids now ask me for my Xmas list, so no orribly over scale or kettles
I also got 4 railway books.

The bad news is that half of our pressies are at our son's in Manchester
We're stuck in Colorado as my wife had an accident before Christmas and can't travel, we had to watch them being opened for us on FaceTime

Merry Christmas

I got my very first Kettle, a lined green Micky Mouse. (It's actually a model of a film star, played the part of "Blossom" in the comedy series 'Oh Mr Beeching' but the real thing still exists and is operational.) I took about half an hour out of work getting ready for the guests to run it. Was very smooth out of the box but is developing a tight spot as it runs. I hope it loosens up !

I received only a single conflat on Christmas Day.
I had also previously purchased 4 Mk1 carriages with some Christmas money which arrived prior to Christmas.
However, Boxing Day is my birthday. Mrs PP has very generously booked us two tickets on a railtour later in the year from Bristol to Cumbria and a trip on the Ravenglass and Eskdale railway. We will be travelling First Class and will be enjoying Premier Dining. Looking forward to it greatly.

Enjoy your tipple.
It's only nly the most Northerly for a few more years once the new Wolfburn distillery at Thurso is up and running.
However(as a collector of Scottish Single Malts), Old Pulteney is one of my favourites and a very interesting distillery to visit if you get the chance.
Their Old Pulteney liqueur is worth a taste too.

I'm somewhat envious of the generosity displayed by all your friends and relations here regarding your Christmas goodies.
But good luck to you all for what you got.
For myself I had nothing of railway (model or real) from anyone. It's the old story of whatever we buy will be the wrong size (scale), the wrong railway or you already have it.
It's been like that ever since an elderly, but well meaning, aunt gave me an OO Jinty in LMS livery one Christmas for my N Gauge, 1970 set Western Region layout.

Santa was very kind to me :) So far I've gotten a Sprog 3, a GF Jinty, an LNER A2, a GF A1 Tornado (which sadly has to go back for replacement/repair as the driving wheels won't spin UPDATE: After a bit of fiddling with a lovely precision tool set that I also received for Christmas, I'm happy to report that my A1 is run in, chipped and chugging happily along!), a Dapol 28xx,  6 Dapol GWR Colletts (a brake composite, 3 composites and 2 3rds), a Dapol GWR Siphon G, a Peco brake van kit, some buffer stops, three Peco signals and signal mechanisms, decoders for my DCC ready engines, some Smiths tarpaulins, the Bachmann Collectors Club membership, a metcalfe station and a metcalfe footbridge. Not a bad haul at all!   :bounce:

I hope everyone had a Happy Christmas :)

Yes, postal staff have a little Christmas break. During my many years working in Bristol's main sorting office we were somewhat compelled to work 21 consecutive 11 hour shifts to sort the avalanche of mail. When working nights we would finish at around 0430 on Christmas eve morning. I would somewhat normalise around Boxing day afternoon, and it was back to work the next day/night!

Stocking...I had a very welcome Hawksworth full brake, to go with the 1st/3rd I had for my birthday.

We set a limit of £10 per person so no locomotives for me! On the other hand I got a nice lot of Peco wagon kits and Oxford Diecast stuff - LMS Mechanical Horse, BR Morris Van and two Ford Anglias (police, grey/white). I also got a neat new pin hammer, about half the weight of my current one so should help me with track pins.

Unlike when I worked for the BBC,
it was a national imperative that the beeb continued broadcasting thro' thick and thin, lest there be civil unrest, even riot, if the population did not get its regular dose of  , , insert word of choice.
Being single in those days it was considered to be our duty to volunteer for Xmas so that the marrieds could have time with their families.
I never did understand why it was thought that singles would not also have families, but I did my duty nevertheless.
OK,,, you can all put your violins down now,,,, cos it did get double time + another day off :)

Oooops you got me deviating :)
I meant to say :-
We tend not to go in for big prezzies at Xmas, just tokens, because we buy the big things during the year when we spot something we want. ;D

I got lucky and got these from my girlfriend and parents respectively.

(http://i1112.photobucket.com/albums/k481/Atso-Cad/2015-12-26%2013.55.58_zpsxp87wmwz.jpg) (http://s1112.photobucket.com/user/Atso-Cad/media/2015-12-26%2013.55.58_zpsxp87wmwz.jpg.html)

However, they are not destine to remain as they are...

One will end up looking something like this:

(http://i1112.photobucket.com/albums/k481/Atso-Cad/2015-12-26%2013.56.13_zpsqwnomqiu.jpg) (http://s1112.photobucket.com/user/Atso-Cad/media/2015-12-26%2013.56.13_zpsqwnomqiu.jpg.html)

While the original N class I bought at TINGS will end up looking a bit like this (and find it's way to a new owner):

(http://i1112.photobucket.com/albums/k481/Atso-Cad/2015-12-26%2014.02.14_zpsl6xubyzz.jpg) (http://s1112.photobucket.com/user/Atso-Cad/media/2015-12-26%2014.02.14_zpsl6xubyzz.jpg.html)

While the last one will end up being another LNER 2-6-0 configuration...  8)

You were lucky! My BR black one had some valve gear assembly issues which caused the whole lot to lock up. A couple of hours fiddling and adjusting later all was well...

 No but it was apparently enough that when Hattons didn't have one of the Colletts mom ordered (it said they had one on the shelf but they didn't), Christine called my mother in the US and apologized profusely and still managed to get the coach in question and have it delivered in time for Christmas! Apparently she didn't want mom to be peeved after such a large order. Lol Mom thought it was a very nice gesture but somewhat unnecessary, especially since poor Hattons paid for international calling.

Why is everyone blaming the respective post offices for the non arrival of their goods when we all know the real culprit lives in Lapland, wears a lot of red and delivers, regular as clockwork, on the night of 24th/25th December?  ;)
Except that, for some reason, he didn't this year!  :worried:

Maybe he was finally nicked for flying under the influence and ignoring air traffic control, international borders, customs, entering houses without the owner's knowledge - a list as long as your arm! That would stop him completing his rounds, wouldn't it.

So it got left to the good old Post Office - again.

You are, of course, entitled to your opinion Mike, even when it is wrong and of no value to me.  Hilarious really when, from your comment, you clearly have never heard any of it.  Fortunately it was my gift and not yours, and I don't recall criticising your choice of music.  So please, in future, keep your ill informed comments to yourself and if you have nothing positive to say, then say nothing.
I fail to understand why some people can do nothing but be negative all the time, I see little value in spending the only life you get following this path unless the aim is to try and make every one else equally miserable.
Merry Christmas

the new Jeff Lynne's ELO album
Oh, you mean his solo album that he can only sell by slapping the ELO name on it (despite it being just him & Tandy ... no Bevan etc) ...   If it's anything like Zoom - I'll give it a wide berth ...

Well said Lawrence, I too have the new album and am going to see them in April.
It's a shame that on this mainly friendly forum there are some, fortunately very few, who seem to be on here only to criticise and stir stuff up.
My old granny used to say "If you've got nowt nice to say, say nowt"

Merry Xmas to all, even the miserable !!

No new camera  :( but the problem with the old one seems to be software and not hardware so theres hope for it yet.
9+ hours of railway DVDs and 1 which is half book and half DVD of the Red Arrows.
Certain garments of underwear and a large bag of mini Mars bars  :-*
A calendar of 'Old Basingstoke' pictures taken back in the 1920s
Not even started on the DVDs yet 'cause Ive got a stack of new ones (non railway) to get through from December buying

Railway related stuff I got was:-
A modern reprint of Bradshaw's Handbook
A couple of Farish wagons
A Metcalfe kit
Some detail brushes and a cutting mat
Some money which I have converted into a Farish 2MT in green - just got to wait for Postie now.

Lawrence, I will make no further comment on your last post (which I agree with by the way), but did you know that the "Flag" you are flying as your avatar is also the flag of "Tenerife".

Each of the 7 Canary Islands has it's own flag, but the one representing all of the Canary Islands is white, light blue, and yellow vertical stripes, but neither is shown in the Countries list for this Forum, which is why only the Spanish flag appears below my avatar.
Below is a pic of both the Canary Islands & Tenerife flags.
The Tenerife Football Team are known as the white & blues (blancoyazuls)

Exactly, he gave his opinion on the album, nowhere did he conduct a vitriolic attack on you personally !

Gosh, interesting, thank you, I did not know that either !
Could be a problem if Tenerife and Scotland become United Nations Nations independently iyswim :)

Amazing the things one learns,,

No he didn't, but then no-one asked for his frankly rather-acidic opinion either on something that is obviously very popular among diehard ELO fans as well as new listeners judging by album sales and numerous sold-out-in-minutes concerts ;)

From a moderation point of view can we please get back to the point of the thread and not create an argument? Suffice to say this isn't the first time a particular member's abrasive attitude has been highlighted, and that goes for a small number of people on here, and the Mod Team will be watching more closely in future.

In an attempt to get this thread back on topic, have not made a post on it before as I didn't get anything at all railway related in my stocking, but I did on my birthday which was just a couple of weeks previously.

Talking of "stockings" Santa's little helpers (the female ones) who gave out presents at the Poolside on Xmas day did each wear some rather fetching green & red stockings with just a hint of bare flesh showing between the top of their stockings and the bottom of their "Elf" outfits. Only shown the top part in the attached photo as don't want to get anyone too excited.

Been a very nice Xmas here in Tenerife so far (and I won't mention the weather as I know all about the problems being experienced at present in "Blighty"), had an excellent Xmas lunch with friends at a nearby local Restaurant on Xmas Day (and it was only €22.50 + drinks), after which was so full had to go for a siesta for a couple of hours.

Last Xmas in my stocking was some Metcalf kits from my son which I have never had time to make, so just have retrieved them and am going to make an attempt to build them in the next few days.

Happy New Year

That does sound like a real treat :) Sharing the love of Model trains with others is always a joy and I am glad the kids had a great time :)

And you are a moderator Paul, those kind of comments should be restricted to the moderators forum and not aired in public.  Your poorly veiled threats (irrespective of what has gone before) are not appreciated, and it is not the first time you have used this tone.  There is a code of conduct for members and a guide for moderators, you should look over them again.

:censored: can people stop all this rubbish and keep on topic.

Also remember that this is supposed to be a happy time of year but where I write from there are thousands of people who are very much LESS than happy. Thankfully I'm not affected but my mate in Ulleskelf had his lovely old house inundated in a big way on Boxing Day and has lost a LOT of stuff.

-------------------------------------------

So to get back on the topic, Santa brought me the usual sort of pressies (chocs, biccies, booze etc) and a good book about 50 great railways of the world. Non-railway related I got a vintage guide to Brooklands which is v interesting. The cash I got will be distributed among my various interests, including N gauge obviously.

Fatso has the right idea. Well done for you and your Christmas! Lovely.

Merry Christmas and happy new year from soggy York. Thoughts to anyone on here who's affected, wherever they are.

A Dapol Britannia 7000 with tender, BR late crest from SWMBO

I'm not a steam expert but wasn't a Britannia a 70000? A 7000 (in steam terms) was surely a later built Castle 4-6-0?  ;)

Quite correct, Greg, but whether a typo by Graham or a factory mistake by Dapol, maybe we'll never know :D

Typo caused by wonky vision, caused by too much Speyside single malt.

I recieved some lovely gifts from friends and family, sadly none of it train related! Which means one of two things:

1. They think I have enough train items; or
2. My hint dropping technique needs to be improved!

As 1. is not actually possible it must be the latter (must try harder) :laugh3:

:thumbsdown:nothing train related just a couple of pairs of socks and indigestion from over indulgence of Xmas food.
However things may change next week for train stuff.
