There was an OO scale Metcalfe kit given away free with the latest issue of RM.
I checked in one of my "bits boxes" and, thanks to RM, over the years I have accumulated the following free OO scales kits :
Metcalfe low relief shop front
Metcalfe signal box
Metcalfe platform shelter
Ratio lineside hut
I'd be interested to know what do you guys do with these kits ?
Best regards,
Joe
I saw that here in Australia two days ago. Yep, we do get express delivery into my local newsagents!
All I can say is, about time the partnership think about some N freebies in the New Year.
From my recent UK trip I have the RM and BRM OO freebie "kits", have vague plans to put them aside until I get round to making a static shelf display for my remaining 'Orribly Oversized stock, probably one day around the time my shares in Porcine Aviation start paying dividends.
run it through a colour copier and reduce it to N scale??
Pass them on to an 00 user at a show
I'm thinking not so much about the freebie as a nod of the hat to N gauge modellers.

That only encourages them ... :P

:laughabovepost:
but at least giving them away would remove temptation ? I note that you are already entertaining dark thoughts brought on by a swine-ish fever :hmmm: :smiley-laughing: :laugh3:
Thanks for the ideas guys.
I live in France so I don't know anyone here to whom I can give them.
I wouldn't be able to use the photocopies on my layout.
Would it be a sin if a built a tiny OO layout diorama to accommodate these items ?
Best regards,
Joe
Yes. Absolutely. >:D
;) ;D
Why not just make 'em up anyway, and see how they look? Your diorama idea isn't so bad and you'd be honing your kit building skills.
George
Just do a mini diorama in 009 -- means you can use N gauge track and not be totally sinful

I would then have an excuse to buy those Ratio LMS coach kits I've always hankered after !
Best regards,
Joe
Yes! And as Oldman says, you could do a 009 layout, which I didn't even think of.
I've always had a soft spot for 009 (I built a rabbit warren 009 a long time ago), and it sounds like a great idea. There's some really cool 009 stuff available these days.
Look at Parkside Dundas for rolling stock ideas
You could build them up in a diorama and then have a building fire scene with real flames >:D

There's a German HO prototype for this: Brennendes Finanzamt (http://www.faller.de/App/WebObjects/XSeMIPS.woa/cms/page/pid.14.17.89/agid.1127.1202.1229/atid.268/ecm.at/Brennendes-Finanzamt.html) (burning tax office).
Reminds me of when we used to blow up Airfix kits with bangers !
Joe
How on earth did you blow them up with a car ???
Running them over I could understand, but ...
:P :P :P
This something we always did around the 5th of November :D
I've got some N gauge stonepaper and I think I could use some of the parts from the OO kit. Like cut down and rework the windows or some of the other details.
Hi Firefox.
The kits I mentioned are all brick structures ?
Best regards,
Joe

Just like the original Thunderbirds show with all those intricate models that must have taken a while to build and then they'd blow them to pieces! At least it was caught on film, I suppose.

Yes, the brick walls are no good, overscale bricks, but I was planning to use some other bits like windows, but cut down, and then combine with N Gauge Stonecard - I haven't examined the kit fully yet - just took a quick look in the newsagents but there seemed some possibilities.
Use them to create a "land of the giants" theme park in a corner of your layout.
Cheers
Paul
If anyone wants my freebie from the January RM they can have it for free if they pay postage. Any takers, pm me.
Scalescenes gave away the printed 00 factory set up of 4 pieces in on mag. No easy way to redo in n other than taking to a good colour photocopy machine. If you wanted them in n you had to pay. In another mag the Brunel wall link code was given away to download from the ss site for free. :laugh3:
Another option: sell for more than a tenner on Ebay:

No words. People are daft. It says it was a free kit in the picture on the auction!
Just proves there's an endless supply of mugs out there.
