Title: Xmass,, no dont panic
Post by: MalcolmInN on December 18, 2015, 09:43:24 PM
Panic not mods, it isnt what you think !! Read on :
This is really is  -ss :)

You will all be pleased to know that Xmass has determined that the missing (dark) matter in the universe is not all warm dark matter.
Their results rule out the possibility that it is all super-weakly interacting massive bosonic particles (bosonic super-WIMPs)

I did try to raise a smile in that other topic but no one cottoned on

Still haven't got a clue at what you're on about.   :confused1:

What he's saying is that these boffins never think of contacting their local lost property office to locate their missing dark matter, which has already gone cold. Where the bos'u'n comes into it is not clear.

Well, obviously the bosun is the senior non-scientist, responsible for the infrastructure of the detectors ...  ::)

sheesh, what do they teach young'uns these days, I dunno ...  :-[

I don't care what colour the matter that I drop is. It all gets swept/hovered up and binned

That's it exactly Caz, very astute of you :) ,
you see, no one else has a clue either ! All the scientists and cosmologists are running round in circles pulling their hair out wondering why we seem to have lost 90odd % of the universe :(

It is tremendous fun !
In a bit of a nutshell :
until a few years ago Newton then Einstein and one or two others had it all more or less sorted. Then some bright eyed souls figured that "something" was not quite right in the way stars (including the sun) moved in the Galaxy and how galaxies moved and bent light from other galaxies.
Big Oooops moment.
So now they are all theorizing and looking for WIMPs, MACHOs, Supersymmetric new Particles and other exotic may-be things.

QI to wonder about whilst watching one's trains go round :)
at least we now know it isnt all WIMPs  :D
