Title: Amazon deliveries
Post by: MikeDunn on December 14, 2015, 01:43:36 PM
Just a 'heads up' for peeps ...

If you're expecting a delivery from Amazon, check out the carrier on your order ...

A lot of stuff (this includes free-post as well as Prime) is being routed via WPDS and this is not Worldwide Parcel Services (who don't touch Amazon stuff at all, and seem to be getting extremely annoyed at being blamed) but Whistl - apparently what used to be TNT ... and they're screwing deliveries up left, right & centre ...  Supposedly, they're taking the parcels, processing them, & dropping them off with Royal Mail to do the last part of the delivery.

Don't be surprised to see your "expected delivery" date suddenly increase anywhere between a couple of days & a couple of weeks ...

From what I can tell - WPDS are making Yodel look good ...  :o

A while back Amazon decided to ditch Royal Mail and carry out their own deliveries with RM shedding staff accordingly as Amazon was our biggest parcel customer. They pay a pittance to their staff so either can't get them, lose them or just get duffers! Amazon underestimated what was involved with delivery and can't cope. As a consequence every time they have too much to deliver they just dump it on RM whom, having the universal delivery license, have no choice but to bail them out.
I've had Amazon stuff 'out for delivery' then 'at hub' then 'out for delivery' etc for days!
Trouble is the Amazon staff just dump the parcels anywhere and us posties get the blame.

If it is any consolation RM is the only one that can reliably find us, :)  :claphappy: :claphappy:
we are up a long driveway up a lane off a lane off a minor road out in the wilderness, it confuses the couriers sumat awful !! I once ended up on the phone guiding the man in the office (cos the van-man didnt have a phone) via Google street view who then had to tell the van-man for the next attempt :(

Simple answer, don't use Amazon. I stopped using them many years back and have never had a problem finding stuff, often cheaper with much better service. They are a dreadful company, IMHO.

That's very strange... I've used Amazon ever since they started up and bought £1000s of stuff from them over the years. Never had a serious problem with them. The only issue I had was a faulty TV which I returned with no quibble from them - but the replacement got lost - sorted out in a couple of days.
There have also been a number of items I bought which it turned out were not really what I wanted. All returned and refunded no problem.
Never had a late delivery.
I must say I've never used them for N gauge stuff - always found a better deal somewhere else.
In the end its down to individual experience I guess.
:beers:

Well ... one thing to be aware of is : does a mfr offers a different warranty if you buy from Amazon ?

In my experience, this different warranty tends to be one that is worse, eg a kitchen appliance SWMBO bought through Amazon had a 1-year warranty - but the mfr offers a 2-year warranty if bought anywhere else but Amazon !   Got caught out on that one, when it failed @ 13 months  :veryangry:

So we're starting to take a more Amazon-unfriendly approach these days; doesn't mean we don't use 'em, but for electricals etc we take a hard look for potential gotchas ...

I thought it was always the manufacturer's warranty that took precedence? But then maybe you'd have to go straight to the manufacturer to get a repair/replacement.

We went there first - to be told by them "you bought from Amazon, there's only a 1-year warranty if you buy there" ...

We then had an argument with the mfr and Amazon about this, before heading off to Which! Legal, and getting a partial refund ("not of serviceable quality" or some such).  We're still :censored: off about it.

I'm not surprised you weren't happy. I'm surprised Amazon can get away with offering a warranty worse than the manufacturer's!! Still I'm not well versed in legal stuff. Morally - its just wrong don't you think?

Well ... I had hoped I would escape this screwed-up delivery Amazon are currently giving customers - sadly, not the case.

An order for 4 books for presents (made on the 11th) was split into three parts
Quote from: Amazon
to give you a quicker service, at no additional cost to you
Well - the first part they did (2 books) was processed about 4:20; the next book at about 8:25, and the last at about 9:35.  The first package should have been delivered on the 16th, with the other two on the 17th.  Only the two single ones arrived ...  I would have been happy with a single delivery of all 4 books, even if it came on the 17th ... before Christmas was my sole aim.

Had a chat with CS, and the girl I spoke with has a replacement pair in the system, delivery to be tomorrow ... we'll see, but with a Saturday delivery I think it's safe to say it won't be WPDS handling it !  I'll find out later, once it goes from "processing" to "posted" ... !

It may not have cost me any more, but it has certainly cost them - not to mention a slower service to me !  I dread to think how much this overall fiasco with WPDS is costing them - although no doubt they'll stiff WPDS the actual costs & not be out of pocket !

I have noticed a definite decline in Amazon Prime delivery - so much that they keep having to extend my Prime membership by a month and I think I have now had six free months!

What is annoying is that a delivery date is given, then I get an email to say it is being delivered a day earlier and then it arrives a day late  :o

They have told be that they cannot contact the carrier (which is Amazon) to find out exactly where my delivery is.

Is that what they do Pengi? Extend your membership. That could be good use for me cos I use Amazon prime a lot for films, music, etc. etc.
Is that in their terms and conditions somewhere?
:beers:

Ordered two things from Amazon early last week as presents for my Grandchildren.
They HAD to arrive by today as we travel up to Wiltshire to see them tomorrow.
The first item arrived by Royal Mail on Tuesday (despite the order tracker saying it would be Hermes!).
The second arrived at 17-00 this evening via a Hermes courier. It was marked on Aazon's tracker website as expected on Tuesday.
Not sure what Hermes have been up to but at least both parcels arrived on time (just)!

My other half ordered something from Amazon.es yesterday (a new hosepipe for the washing machine) with delivery promised for today before 2100 hours, to say I was sceptical was the least.  1600 hours this afternoon our buzzer went to get access to our community and our house, lo and behold, an Amazon delivery, very impressed, especially as it was handled by "Correos" the national postal service here in Spain.

I`m overdue a parcel of replacement items that had arrived damaged last week. So far Amazon have failed to honour their replacement  delivery by 2 days and time is getting desperate on a couple of the contents.
I think in this area they are using camel or hefalump delivery services   >:(

I ordered some bits from Plaza Japan right at the beginning of November, still no sign of my parcel  :( had to raise it on ebay and they are going to resend the whole order.  Such a shame as Plaza are usually really good have had stuff in a week from them before.

Made a few Amazon orders is recent weeks.  All have arrived within quoted schedule, one before the earliest date.  One was delivered by Royal Mail.  The others using their own systems.

That is a shame - I find Plaza have been very good, as you have said. Hope it is not a delivery issue from the UK side :worried:
