Title: Vienna
Post by: port perran on December 08, 2015, 06:46:12 PM
Mrs PP and I have just returned from a short trip to Vienna where we had a lovely time.
Fascinating city rich in culture and heritage and so interesting and safe to wander around.
Whilst there we took the opportunity to take the train to Bratislava in Slovakia (only 65 mins by train and 14 Euro return each).
A great trip and so interesting to wander around Bratislava.
What I really wanted to comment on was the efficiency, cleanliness and organisation of Austrian railways.
Hardly ant rubbish on the tracks, clean tidy well swept stations. Trains running spot on to time. I could go on.
It just make you wonder where we have gone wrong in this country?
And it's not just Austria. having travelled through Belgium , Germany , Denmark & Sweden by rail earlier in the year I can only say they are miles ahead of us.

Did you visit the model shop behind St Stephen's cathedral?

Afraid we only looked in the window in the evening.
There are also a couple of other small shops but mainly selling HO stuff.

Yeah, we traveled extensively by train through many European countries in 2013 and I must say I was impressed. Mind you, it was all 1st class on a Eurail ticket I'd purchased here in Oz before we went. Dunno if that coloured me glasses or not.

Must admit the world would be a better place if those pesky ants stopped dropping litter everywhere :unimpressed: :P
