I am looking to build up a steam freight train and need a loco I'm not worried about era/area I run alsorts,I already have a dapol hall will this suffice? Though a new loco would be nice :D

Any of the Union Mills 0-6-0s or 0-8-0s, Farish 4F. 8F, J39, WD, 4MT, 5MT, N, Dapol Q1, 9F, 2884
The Hall class was a very useful mixed traffic locomotive , so yep, its ideal for your freight train :)
The Grafar Austerity 2-8-0 is a nice runner. I recently bought the weathered BR version and it really looks the part of a hard working loco.
As Jason says, Halls were good mixed traffic locomotives used for passenger, freight and parcels traffic so that will probably fit your needs.
If its WR you're after then a smaller branch line type loco would be Dapol's prarie tank or one of their small panniers.
Also Union Mills do the Dean Goods 0-6-0 Tender Locomotive. Excellent model, robust and a good runner.
Since you have a Hall why not a Dapol Grange or 2884 2-8-0 to go with it?
Just a thought

Don't forget some of the smaller tender loco types like the exquisite Farish Ivatt 2MT 2-6-0 too.
