Title: Lydle End Fan Drift
Post by: scottishlocos on November 17, 2015, 06:51:45 PM
All

I have a fan drift left over from a previous layout can this building be used to represent other industrial buildings I think they have been specific to coal mines.

I am trying to represent a papermill on my new layout

Thanks

They are specific to coal mines.  However if you are modelling a coalfield area you could use it as exactly what it is, a fan ventilating a colliery, even one a couple of miles offstage....

If you go to the National Coal Mining Museum at Caphouse Colliery near Wakefield then you can see the real thing, along with the originals of all the other Lyddle End coal mine models. It's a good day out actually, quite apart from the rather surreal sensation of being surrounded by buildings which you've got little models of on your layout. They're all there. You can even go inside some of them. Spooky.
