Title: Out of favour?, how do you hold yours?
Post by: Zogbert Splod on November 05, 2015, 01:28:48 PM
Over the last few days I have been into 4 different shops looking to buy something. In one of the shops I asked a staff member where I could find the item, only to get the answer, "What's that then? We don't stock those. What are they for?".  At that point I went home.
What was I trying to buy?  Egg cups!  Don't people use them anymore?  :-\

Well I and the misses still use them quite often. You can't beat a boiled egg. (only a raw one  :) )
:beers:

I'm off eggs. Earlier this year I had them twice in a couple of weeks and I felt sick afterwards on both occasions. From different boxes too. Maybe more people are affected!  :hmmm:

I used to use egg cups. Nowadays I steam the egg in very little water (after seeing that technique used in an egg steamer on a hotel self-service breakfast buffet) for about six minutes, then peel it under cold water and deposit the result on my bread. It seems to taste better than fished out of the shell with a spoon. It's also easier to distribute the salt & pepper.

I still enjoy a soft boiled egg every week.

Yes I use an egg cup. We have six.

However, we bought them (Or were given them) when we got married - 34 years ago. Somehow I don't think any egg cup supplier is going to get rich out of us.

I guess the current generation can't put their Muesli or their Latte's in an egg cup, hence the ignorance.  Nevertheless, they seem to be available:

I had an eggcup once. Wonder what happened to it...

Here in Japan we just break open a raw egg over a bowl of warm rice and add soya sauce  :D

That's what I've done for ages too and it's the reason I don't have an egg cup in the house.  I felt like a change and then the saga started...  I use an egg cooker from Lidl's and it's great.
Like you, I first saw the idea in a hotel breakfast bar.....

Thanks for that!  :D  I had a novelty screwdriver that looked just liked this, and the Hex Bit went in the gun.

Our egg cups are older than me!  I don't think we'll be buying any in our life time to be honest, and maybe they'll be passed to the third generation in the future?!  :)

We have several sets, one of which is in wood painted by son when he was about 3 years old (he's now 19). Those are my favourites.

In my opinion a fresh egg, cooked to just the right degree and with soldiers, is just as good as a meal in a fancy restaurant.

And what does it cost ? Less than £1 !

Yours hungrily,

Joe

I have a china double egg holder, but Mrs "H" is now using the above link to swamp the grandkids with a healthy Xmas present.

Hmmm.  How is your gall-bladder?  Get sick occasionally after a fatty meal, especially at night?
