I'm after some help please. I was wondering if anyone knew when certain classes of diesels last had certain liveries on? In particular, what year could you see a 37 in Rail freight metals and Dutch, a 58 in Mainline (both blue and grey), and a 56 in coal sector and load haul?
Thanks in advance!
Hello, please bear in mind that some locos carry these liveries even today (mainly through preservation) although some locos that are stored still carry these older liveries as well but don't actually run.
Are you after information about when the official decisions were made to finish a livery or actually when the last known survivor of a livery was repainted?
I remember the case of class 58005 which was dumped at Leicester Beal Street yard for many years it got 'switched off' in 2000 and didn't get moved until 2006 to be refurbished. During this whole time it was in its mainline blue livery.
The triple grey with sector markings and yellow/grey Dutch liveries were introduced in the mid 1980s.
Loadhaul and Mainline were two of the freight companies set up in 1994 prior to privatisation.
If you're modelling the mid to late '90s then sector liveries would be seen alongside Loadhaul and Mainline coloured locos.
Happy modelling.

If you're looking at modelling a particular era then I'd suggest getting the Ian Allan / Platform 5 books in question. I have a dilemma as I want 47434 Pride in Huddersfield in BR Blue large logo livery and 47406 Rail Riders in Intercity livery but the 2 didn't happen at the same time. Artistic licence needed.
Thanks for the replies. My current modern loco stock is 2 x 37's, one in metals, one in EWS. A 58 in Mainline blue, and 2 x 66's, one in Freightliner green (not powerhaul), and one is the Sorrento shipping model. I know this came out in about 2010, so artistic licence will be applied, but would the early loco's I have be ok with my Freightliner 66 (and a possible EWS one), plus the other liveries, for future expansion (if wife allows lol)? I've a good idea when the liveries first came out, but not how long they lasted. Not lived in the UK for quite a while, so I've not had firsthand knowledge on this. Any help is greatly appreciated.
I definitely think Modern image is starting to split
Some people think BR Blue is modern image
Personally, I use sectorisation and privitisation as the split
Therefore it looks like your models cover both, so would be considered to be in the privitisation period
Triple Grey Metal would not quite be correct, but possible, as most would have had the Metal sub-sectors removed and replaced by TransRail

Given that BR Blue was introduced (arguably) on the famous Glasgow Blue Trains as far back as 1960, then in 1964 on main line stock (as an experiment) and in general livery since 1966, it's now been around for nearly 55 years so it's a bit hard to think of it still being 'modern image', but I know what you mean :D

The "Glasgow Blue Trains" were originally painted in Caledonian Railway ( Prussian ) Blue with black/yellow lining. This was a bit ironic, since they were first introduced on ex-LNER, ex-NB lines ( NB and CR were bitter enemies! ).

:-[ I bow to your greater knowledge over the shade, Alex. However the facts remain that they were BR owned and painted blue, the first of the BR fleet, apart from a few experimentally liveried steam locomotives around 1948, to be painted in that primary colour.
Best wishes,
Greg.
