Post by: MinZaPint on October 03, 2015, 05:15:03 PM
Had a very nice trip to Croatia, started in Zagreb comfortable hotel but pricey bar! Local hostelry came to the rescue @ 10.14 Kune to the £ seemed a bargain!

Suitably fortified headed  down to the rail station where we found this old lady

More modern locos where in the station

Our tour guide who was Croatian and only a few months younger than me! told us that in Yugoslavian days they had a really good rail network, as we travelled round we saw the remains of quite a few lines.

Allegedly the worlds shortest funicular, 55 seconds top to bottom!

Colourful roofs

Had a trip to Ljubljana in Slovenia (Euro territory) lovely old town with a castle that reminded me of Edinburgh being on a rocky outcrop over looking the town

And streets with shop signs advertising there wares, anyone for sausage?

Then on to lake Bled, river boats

(http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/gallery/16/thumb_30022.JPG) (http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;id=30022)

And another castle perched on a cliff

(http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/gallery/16/thumb_30023.JPG) (http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;id=30023)

We then headed for Trogir near Split via the Plitvice lakes national parks.

(http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/gallery/16/thumb_30026.JPG) (http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;id=30026)

To board our motor yacht "Pacific" for a cruise along the coast

Went to Croatia back in the Yugoslavia days, lovely place :)

Stayed on the island of Brač just along the coast from Split, and had a lovely trip to Krka National Park with its spectacular waterfalls

Having dumped our kit on board we went for a look around the lovely old town of Trogir, lots of bars and restaurants, I took advantage of the former!

(http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/gallery/15/thumb_30714.JPG) (http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;id=30714)

And got a shot of us in the sun

(http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/gallery/15/thumb_30713.JPG) (http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;id=30713)

Before joining our 33 fellow passengers for the Captains dinner, fillets of Sea Bream. We were fortunate to have a lovely lady chef who served up a wide variety of really tasty 3 course meals once a day depending on whether were at sea or in port.
And the waterfront as we left.

(http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/gallery/15/thumb_30725.JPG) (http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;id=30725)

On to Zadar  where we moored up below the city walls, that's our boat top left

(http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/gallery/15/thumb_30716.JPG) (http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;id=30716)

The market in town

(http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/gallery/15/thumb_30715.JPG) (http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;id=30715)

And the university

(http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/gallery/15/thumb_30726.JPG) (http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;id=30726)

Visited the Glass museum which was interesting and found a lovely restaurant where we ate twice, the first time we had the best seafood risotto we've had anywhere.

Next up was Sibenik, view from the boat,

(http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/gallery/15/thumb_30717.JPG) (http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;id=30717)

We later ate in on of the restaurants under the blue awnings it was our evening snack so we shared a portion of Calamari and one of Mussels with lovely fresh bread and a modest embrocation of wine! while we watched the varying colours of the sunset.

(http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/gallery/15/thumb_30727.JPG) (http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;id=30727)

(http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/gallery/15/thumb_30728.JPG) (http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;id=30728)

While there we had a trip to the Krka National Park which as you can see is very scenic

(http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/gallery/15/thumb_30718.JPG) (http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;id=30718)

(http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/gallery/15/thumb_30719.JPG) (http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;id=30719)

(http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/gallery/15/thumb_30720.JPG) (http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;id=30720)

We then had a river trip back to a tour bus which took us onto the BIBICh winery where we had a tasting of some wonderful wines and the lady of the house had laid on a buffet

(http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/gallery/15/thumb_30721.JPG) (http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;id=30721)

That lot was demolished in less than 15 minutes!

Looking back to the town as we left

(http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/gallery/15/thumb_30729.JPG) (http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;id=30729)

And one of the submarine pens from WW2
(http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/gallery/15/thumb_30730.JPG) (http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;id=30730)

To find this waiting in the bay?

(http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/gallery/15/thumb_30724.JPG) (http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;id=30724)

At $300 million a bargain! It belongs to a Russian OilioGarth  "Motor Yacht A" if you want to Google it. Looks like a sub to me.

We were meant to overnight at Primosten

(http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/gallery/15/thumb_30731.JPG) (http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;id=30731)

But as the fishing fleet were sheltering there we were advised that the smell was not conducieve to a good nights kip!
So on to Rogonznica

(http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/gallery/15/thumb_30732.JPG) (http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;id=30732)

And traditional skills survive
(http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/gallery/15/thumb_30722.JPG) (http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;id=30722)

Last but not least my nightcap, note the gravitas!

(http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/gallery/15/thumb_30723.JPG) (http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;id=30723)

Then it was back to Split to overnight before catching our flight home. Hope you find one or two moments to share our enjoyment of this holiday.

Cheers David

Always interesting to see pictures & read about places that you yourself have never visited but may want to.

Perhaps there should be a Thread started where Forum members list the Countries and Destinations they have been to (on holiday or work related or once lived), then if others were interested they could contact the poster for further information.

I love travelling and exploring new destinations, and have been to quite a few places all over the World, but there are still many more that I would love to visit for one reason or another.
