Post by: Tdm on September 06, 2015, 08:28:09 PM
Am flying over and in Chester 4th to 12th of October - any Train Fairs/Swapmeets/Exhibitions in the area between those dates does anybody know?

Once again your timing is awful, Terry ::)
Apart from the Wigan show (the largest in the NW) on 3/4th October I can find nothing during the week you are in Blighty - sorry.
Our meet up is on the 17th so we're sad you can't be with us :(

It's the Airlines fault - besides puting their prices up during school holidays, it appears they also do so when there is a decent show/event worth going to.

Used to be a time when we could get a flight from Tenerife to the U.K. for just 99P plus taxes,
but not any more, flight prices seem to have gone through the roof these days.

I like Chester so I'm sure I'll find plenty to do whilst over and 2 of our grandkids who live there will be sure to keep us occupied for most of the time. There is a model railway shop in Chester (which used to be ModelZone), so might pop in there to see if they have any bargains.

Have relations still living in our home town of Chorley, so will probably drive there one day as we have booked a hire car during our stay, and if time might call in "Bygone Times" in Bottony as they sometimes have model railway items in there.

Last time I was in 'Botany Bay' there was no railway stuff, Terry, and Hoyle's Models who used to be based there have ceased trading. However, it is possible there may be some N gauge stuff at 'Bygone Times' at Eccleston but it is rare to find something there too.

Terry,

There is a web site that has lots of info about events on. http://www.ukmodelshops.co.uk (http://www.ukmodelshops.co.uk)

You can subscribe to his weekly news letter that gives updates. Worth a squint.

You might want to visit the preserved railway at Llangollen.

Been there - done that when we used to live just outside Conwy, plus the unique Snowdon Mountain Railway that goes to the very top of Mount Snowdon.

Chester Model Centre featured in the new Bachmann Times in Bridge St might be worth a browse ...

That's the one I referred to in Reply #2 - it used to be ModelZone's shop until they went bust, then what was/is Penketh Model Railways from near Warrington took it over. Been in a few times.
