My new computer came today. I have to say that I like Windows 10. Well, so far anyhow! I'm not sure how much of the speed of this machine relates to being new, how much to having Win 10.
It's a tower machine from PCS and is described as a 'gaming computer'. It won't be getting much in the way of gaming use but it will be used to edit a lot of graphics stuff and some videos.
It's, physically, the biggest computer I have ever had with lots of room to add bits and pieces inside should I need to.
(http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k130/Zogbert_Splod/Anim%20Flippant_zpseu4smb63.gif) The box it came in was HUGE! I put it outside the door to dispose of it and my neighbour asked if I had planning permission for the new extension!!!
Anyhow, I am a happy chappie...
Regards, Allan.....
Enjoy!

AMD Quad Core A8 6600K 3.9GHz
8GB RAM + 1TB HDD
AMD Radeon HD 8570D
DVD Writer
Windows 10 64bit
I've already doubled the disk space to 2T coz I know I will need it inside a few months.
I considered a few options and I must say that a lot of them were higher spec than this one but I will add a double header graphics card soon and it will be way more than I need for the foreseeable future. I was going to buy components and nail it together myself but the saving turned out to be a lot less than I thought so...
Yeah, I am happy with it.....

You must be telepathic ! :
I was sat here thinking should I post the following, would it incur some sort of wrath :
" Keep it till October then gift it to a charity in [insert local town or somewhere in France ] "
(http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k130/Zogbert_Splod/Anim%20Flippant_zpseu4smb63.gif) I'm not gonna prove it but I do believe that I could get in it and close it up.
I had to turn it around to get it through the hallway into the living room so that I could unpack it.
Now (he said with a completely innocent look), complete change of subject, (http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k130/Zogbert_Splod/Anim%20Flippant_zpseu4smb63.gif) if anyone is interested, I have a nice holiday villa available in Scotland - very reasonable rates.....

Fantastic! You'll have a lot of fun with that :-) It's worth having a turn key machine built for as you know it'll arrive at your door working correctly with a warranty!

Well, it was a choice between a steam or clockwork powered pc and I didn't fancy the wallpaper peeling off every time I used the thing...
These young whippersnappers ... I dunno :scowl:
Never had a problem like that with all my steam engines ... and yes, I really mean it  Got a nice collection of Hornby Live Steam I run ...

Now, this is annoying! I go to install a prog from the net and all goes fine. I hit run and it tells me, immediately, 'There is a new version of this application available - Do you wish to download and install it now?' This has happened twice today with different software. Why could they not install the correct version in the first place?
RATFINKS!
Some people are just too lazy to update their sites.

RATFINKS!
Quite so !
I do not normally install software whilst still connected to the interwebby, (practicing safe hex)
once installed I disable any 'check for update', just incase a site gets hijacked, before re-connecting anytime soon and certinly not before a thorough evaluation ( like prompts to reconnect)
Yea, all very clever, pat myself on the back,
recently installed a new version of get_iplayer, and to my horror the installation process informed me "installing , blah, VLC blah blah .dll whathave you " argh, I forgot to dis. (insert dumbo age excuses etc )
The good news - all was ok in the end,
the bad news, yep you guessed, the retrieved version of VLC was not the latest one !!
Raises a glass to Zog :beers:
My pet hate is when you want to install a program, like Adobe ... And it, by default installs Chrome or Google Toolbar unless you tick the required box.

Adobe !!
Ah yes, I have heard that CNET is the devil for that sort of thing
avoid CNET Always go to the orig author site if available, else sourceforge / github etc.
Another pet hate is when you follow a link to install software, there is usually a very obvious DOWNLOAD button, which is nothing to do with the product you want, but leads to some PC cleaner product or service. The real download button is much more subtle.

Nearly got caught a few times myself, nick of time realise that it is an advert, usually? by via google?
another good reason to avoid download sites like Softronic ( < not as pernicious as CNET )
Use the likes of Softronic etc. to find interesting freewares, but download your found software from more reputable sites.
Hi,
I am sure you probably know this already.... but just in case windows 10 standard installation has the privacy options all set to sharing.... easily remedied from the settings tab if, like me, you want more privacy as standard.

Ditto, then they went and shut it and I had to move over the river for work :worried: one good thing is the southbound lane of the bridge, back to the Kingdom ;)
Ah, yes, well my Leuchers days were a long time ago (Hunters, Venoms, 222 Sq.). My dad was RAF, I was a brat.....

I was about to chip in with "dont forget the Blackburn Beverly"
arghh ! old age doesnt come alone !!
"Armstrong Whitworth Argosy, twin boom transport " you'd have corrected me, well they are not vastly different in profile , lol! just as well that I googled first ;)
Blackburn is a company not often mentioned in reminiscences of the glorious multiplicity of ye ancient olde British aircraft manufacturers.
My ancestors the Armstrongs are though :)
I wish they wouldnt keep calling them "vintage" makes one feel so old :(

OK you're right(just Googled it) but I remember from my youth making models and one had twin boom, the other a single fusilage. So which had a single fusilage version?
Quote from: steve836 on August 24, 2015, 04:34:04 PMSo which had a single fusilage version?
Neither ( or none, if you include the Vixen, the third twin boom-er ) I dont think had a single 'version'.
But if you are thinking of the 'Sea ' versions they were replaced by the Blackburn Buccaneer on aircraft carriers, but not a popular model of those days.
Popular modellable jets of the time were the Gloucester Javlin ( delta wing, high tail plane) and the earlier classic Meteor ( two big engines mid-wing)
Else the Follang Gnat, fav cos the Red Arrows used it,
Any bells ringing ?
Before we get on to the V bombers ;)
I'm familiar with most of those inc. Victor, Vulcan & Valiant. Kielkraft was a popular flying kit producer back in the 60's and produced both Venom and Vampire which were powered by "Jetex" motors (basically a solid fuel rocket), one was twin boom, the other a single fusilage. I have visited Hendon and Duxford, one, I think both have either Venom or Vampire with a single fusilage. The problem is that I seem to have a mental block when it comes to which is which.
Hendon has a Vampire (see list at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Air_Force_Museum_London#Aircraft_on_display ) and Duxford has Vampire, Venom and Vixen (see list at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_aircraft_at_the_Imperial_War_Museum_Duxford ). They're all twin boom aircraft. Maybe you're remembering a Sea Hawk? Alternatively Kielkraft might have put together some sort of mongrel without the booms as the Jetex would have likely burned up the tailplane between the booms?
Could be or, more likely, I'm Just going senile. One of the Kielkraft models had the twin boom, but the tailplane was higher than the exhaust from the motor so didn't cause a problem.
Have to laugh at the incredible thread creep, from a new PC to twin boom aircraft ;D ;D
