Title: Searching for a copy of the BRM guide to track plans and layout design.
Post by: silly moo on August 18, 2015, 05:21:48 PM
I will be in the UK in September and a friend has asked me to get a copy of "The BRM guide to trackplans and layout design"

No problem, I thought, I will order one from the publishers. No such luck,  as they are out of stock.

Has anyone spotted a copy at their local model shop? I would be grateful for any leads. Once I have the name of the shop I can contact them and get a copy posted to my daughter in time for my arrival.

Thanks in anticipation.

Veronica.

Unfortunately as soon as I add it to my basket to check it out, I get a message to say it is out of stock. I'm not sure why they are still advertising it.

I had the last one from John Dutfield, so you can cross them off the list...

Have just contacted Dave at The Gas Cupboard in trowbridge as I'm sure he had one last time I was in there, he says he can't see one in his rack of Magazines, but will have a look around the shop and let me know.

Regards

Neal.

Thank you very much for the kind offer but the one I'm after is a complete bookazine which contains 55 layout plans. It costs £5,99 and was published in September 2014.

It's a very good publication and very useful, I have it in digital form but the person who I'm trying to find it for would lik a paper version.

I will work through Mike's list, I'm sure there are a few copies kicking around somewhere?

:thankyousign:  to everyone who helped.

Can't you print out your digital version and get it bound, cheapest way is usually spiral binding or you can do it yourself either by sewing or glue binding.   ;)

argh, not that "I've bought the digital version, why can't I print it ? :(" issue again  :P

Thought we have that talked out when we went through digital publications pros & cons last year ?  Most publishers get 'rather upset' about you printing your own copy out ... and have blocked the function.  To my mind, that's a good reason not to go down that path ... that & the loss of access to some magazines issues you bought when you stop subscribing  :o

Imagine if they dared try that the to 'dead tree' subscribers !  Sending "da boyz" around to confiscate your physical copy  :scowl:

Hi,

I subscribe to BRM using Pocketmags. As part of the on-line reader, it's possible to print out the magazine albeit page by page (and very laborious).

In order that I have a permanent copy of the articles I want, I use the print function but select the save to .pdf instead of directing the page to the printer.

Would that be an option if you can't find a copy?

Thank you for the printing suggestions, I will certainly do that if I can't find a paper copy.

@silly moo (http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;u=279)

Assuming I saw the right publication ... email Hereford Models and ask them if they still have a copy in the top left magazine slot, right at the back of that slot (as you face the magazines) in front of the counter ...  I think I found the last copy & "secured" it there for ya.  There are two publications from BRM, and both are at the back of that slot (think the other one was American Railroads)

No luck there I'm afraid. I will continue to send out emails.

This is what the book looks like

Thanks for the continuing help.

Have you tried WHSmith?
I got my copy at their Warrington branch so maybe they might have one?

Cheers

:thankyousign: to all those who helped with the search. I now have a copy that is in its way to Luton.

I sent out emails to a random selection of retailers on the list Mike sent me. None of them had a new copy of the book but Hattons had an as new copy which I bought. A bird in the hand etc.

Most of the retailers replied almost straightaway and were very helpful, especially the lady from Ian Allan at Waterloo.
