Title: Makita cordless drill/driver charging?
Post by: petercharlesfagg on August 05, 2015, 06:18:58 PM
Friends,

Last year I purchased from Screwfix a cheap Makita drill/driver for £99.00 including the carrying case, charger etc.

I get varying results as regards charging of the batteries because the instructions tell me that the light on the charger base changes colour from Red to Green when fully charged.

OK, understood but how am I to know when it changes colour when I am colourblind?

Does anyone know the approximate charging times for the LI-on batteries under normal circumstances?

Regards, Peter.

My Skil rechargeable drill takes a lot longer than 1 hour. I'd leave it overnight if I were you, can't do any harm - unless Makita have better batteries/chargers...

I would email any  association that helps with this type of issue, that is colour blind Ness,  they may have solutions,  it is a very interesting comment Peter and it would not occur to me,  good luck,  George

I can only go by my Bosch batteries which take a 'quick' charge of 1 hour and a full one in max 3 hours. I'm quite sure there is no need to keep a charge on overnight :worried:

Peter I think most battery chargers go into trickle charge mode once the battery is fully charged so should be OK over night check your manual it should tell you some where or go on the Mikita website and see what they tell you.

I agree with you about the trickle charge, Bob, but was also thinking of the expense of the power consumption (je suis un tight wad)

Peter,

I am assuming this is the one your are referring to? http://www.makita.com.au/products/lithium-ion/item/dc10wa-charger (http://www.makita.com.au/products/lithium-ion/item/dc10wa-charger) as it only has a single LED on the unit.

They estimate 30-50min so 1 hour should be a good time. These are smart chargers and will stop charging when the battery is full.

I use the 18v gear which has several LEDs and a legend to go with them. That and it has tunes that it plays when the battery has finished charging :)
