Title: Giving up buying coffee at work.....
Post by: Skyline2uk on July 24, 2015, 06:04:06 PM
Afternoon all

So today I have got back from my monthly donation of platelets at the Bristol Donor Center, something I have been doing for a number of years now.

Not for the first time, they have given me some advice about my iron level. For the majority of my life this has been fine, certainly good enough to donate. However, it is now verging on and sometimes dipping below, the required level. I am told that caffeine is a blocker for the absorption of iron, and seeing as I have greatly increased my coffee intake ever since I moved into our new building at work (2x Costa, 2x Starbucks!), I think an effort is needed.

Now we all know that buying coffee from shops of the street is not cheap. My employer has negotiated cheaper rates for us worker ants but a rough calculation suggests that I am spending anything between £10.00 and £20.00 a week on coffee (depending on how hard a week I am having)  :o

So, I intend to cut out purchased coffee.

Tomorrow marks 7 weeks until TINGS and, as an incentive, cash saved on coffee goes into the purchase fund.

I promise to be honest and log any failures. Whilst I aim to go totally cold turkey, any relapses will be dutifully recorded.

Not a life or death or remotely noble cause, but an interesting experiment.

And there's me entitled to a free BP 'Wild Bean Cafe' coffee three times a day, and I don't drink coffee - oh the irony of it :D

 :laughabovepost:

Mate if mine was free I wouldn't be sitting there thinking "there's another bit of a CJM or a slightly bigger bit of a Mercig or a much bigger bit of a new 47"

Oh well, will power starts now.

Ask them for Decaffeinated Coffee, they do offer it
Sadly, too many staff don't know how to make (press the correct button on their Cimbali machine)

Since an episode of atrial fibrillation some 20 years ago, on the recommendation of a British Heart Foundation pamphlet I have drunk nothing but defannicated coffee except for the odd relapse for a Costa now and then if I'm out somewhere. I drink anything up to 14 or so mugs of coffee per day and sleep like a log (albeit with a rubber sheet :-[ :oopssign:)
The last company I worked for supplied all the coffee and tea for the staff to make a brew and added defaecated coffee to the list when I joined them. Little did they know how much it was going to cost them mwuhaha >:D

Don't drink any sort of coffee ;) At home I'm a tea-junkie, kettle is rarely cold and we go through sackfuls of Yorkshire Tea :D And the BP bods definitely have no idea how to make tea (gnats pee with milk)
