Living at Redditch, the current southern terminus of the Birmingham Cross-City line, these are an attractive prospect for me. A six car train only just fits into the single platform here making for some interesting operating as an incoming train stops and then crawls up to the red light planted about 3 metres in advance of the stop block.
I wonder how well that bodyshell would fit the ERG vinyls?

I am confused. A Class 323 is an EMU because it is electric. However if you mount a Class 323 body on a Class 170 chassis then I suppose it does become a DMU. But then, as a model, it will still be electric because nobody has yet invented n gauge diesel engines. That is why I don't build my own.
I think I have lost the plot so I am going for a lie down in a dark room.

Interesting...very nice but expensive!
My vinyls are designed around the Farish 170, so may not be a 100% match. If anyone fancies a go at these bodyshells and would like some vinyls doing, please let me know.

Sorry for the typing error in the heading - should be EMU of course but do not know how to change it unless the mods can help.
Travel on them enough to know they are electric but tell my typing fingers that!
later edit:- Found how to change the subject heading now.
I wonder how well they would fit on a Grafar class 350 chassis ?
Hi looks very good , BR lines sells seat units for 170s complete with bogie pivots so getting a rolling unit could be quite quick.
I prefer the orginal Centro/ reg rail livery and have some older railmatch paints, just hope i can seal the 3D print material as I guess getting a acrylic version not that likely.
Waiting to hear on price.

Hi Robert - could you expand slightly on the point about sealing and old paint?
Cheers Jon :)

The prototype 350 chassis is 3m shorter than the 323 so out of the box it won't fit. However only one bogie (in each end car) of the 350 is motored so it should be possible to stretch the chassis without interfering with the mechanism.
Having said that, the 323 bogies are very similar to that of the 170 so that would probably be the best starting point. The "diesel gubbins" between the bogies could be replaced by an impression of the "electric gubbins" under a 323.
Hi On some 3D printed products despite a good clean and using a halfords primer oilbased paints refused to dry - a strip back and reprime plus acyrlic soved problem.
Most but not all of my purchased prints have been WSF or FUD and I have only had problem with FUD - it seems greasy on arrival anyway but less noticeable layering and WSF has a fine layering but has a slightly rough surface, but with a prime ,sand, reprime is very good.
Peter Harvey says that the print is FED not FUD so I await with interest - he is using an etching primer on his bodies and thus should be ok. I will try an etching primer (precsion do a one pack type I have in stock.
Sorry off topic a bit !
However on topic Peter is saying £105 plus postage for three primed bodies.
170 chassis - two car packs around £90 and spare bogies and floor pan from BR Lines to be added so looking at £250 for a three car. Certain by time I finish this Dapol will bring it out !! ( H&S advice - do not hold breath !!)

Have you managed any progress on your 323 yet? Mine is still sat on my modelling table having done nothing since I got it! The major stumbling block is the chassis, still not worked out how to get it inside the body.
Any help you can give would be great.
Plus if anyone could give me a price for painting the 3 coaches in to London Midland livery that would be great. It a bit to complex for me.
Alistair
well never spotted this topic, but so glad I have! Since Manchester Area is what I am aiming off at having on my layout (when I get round to it!) :'(
@robert shrives (http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?action=profile;u=2605)
have you thought about the windows and how your are going to be doing them?
Hi,
In reply to above , 323 is a rolling model with 170 chassis units, toilet window as missed on 3D print now done - a bit of filler and sanding..
The chassis fits one end , dont recall much butchery to get it in, do not try in middle as it wont fir due pan space. Also it makes best use of chassis due no coupler fitted to outer ends of Farish 170. for middle try a 159 for bogies or see if Bob Russell has spares - TPM would do just as well but not tried on this model. (Mind you having got a 170 LM cut and shut middle in the pile near the bench will report on how that comes out.)
glazing - well it will not be flush but clear strip behind and I guess fiddling with clear plastic will make front end but not that far a head -model makes up a bit of a 3D print work display , however this bump does mean I will look again.
The 3D shells are a lovely piece of work by Pete Harvey and can be supplied in an etched primer finish thus able to take enamel paints.
Never thought about LM livery but for a top notch mega job talk to the pros in the hobby or perhaps Adam can get artwork to Steve at Railtec for top quality
transfer elements on top of a basecoat . The vinyl road does not suit the model to my mind - sorry Adam, as the model has so many windows getting a good lay would be a problem to me but more than happy to be proved wrong (happens a lot !!)
Thanks guys !!
Mine is going to use a mix of 170 and 158 chassis. I bought some of Adam's vinyls intended for the Etched Pixels Farish Mk 3 route. The length is different from the Pete Harvey bodies and the window layout on the Pantograph car does not match the LM version. As a test I photocopied Adam's sides onto some very thin clear slightly tacky vinyl which I bought in the US. It is intended for making labels for glass areas such as warning symbols to stop folk like me trying to walk through doors which are not open! Anyway I think it might be a solution. The photo shows a damaged print overlaid on a white primer body. Glazing is flush but some resizing is needed. I put this to one side when my cataracts deteriorated rapidly. Feel the urge to get back to it now.

Just checked the material - Avery Window Pictures which is available via Amazon.com at least.
What's the best way to contact Pete Harvey/buy a primed set?
Is he on this forum?
Cheers Jon :)
I've gone onto the rmweb page and there is a link to his website thats all I have done
This should get you to his website.

Couple of things to mention.
1. He buys them as needed so they will take a few weeks to come.
2. Pete doesn't accept cards so it's cheque only
