So I've now got my track fixed, wired up and running :) and I'm now looking for more loco's/wagons to run. I originally thought I'd use 1995 (era 9) onwards but now I'm looking for more stock there doesn't seem to be much about for it or I'm not keen on it :-\ If I look at era 7 & 8 there's loads of nice looking loco's and wagons I want :doh:
On my layout I really would like to go the industrial look and the 'Railfreight' loco's and wagons have really caught my eye. There seems to be loads available for these. I'm thinking of running maybe a coal sector loco and a metals sector loco both with the appropriate wagons and a shunter to go with them. Then I could always run an older passenger train along side Class 101 2 Car DMU BR Network SouthEast ?

Don't forget of course that you can always invoke Rule 1.
Why not get enough stock so that you could run a stock from either era depending on how you feel.
If I use Rule 1 I'll need a bigger track and more storage space ;D
But your right maybe I should just buy what I like and not worry about what goes with what. Now where's the credit card :o
As a firm fan of the last era of BR, especially the "Triple Grey" liveries, I think that era has a lot going for it :thumbsup:
However, as already said, no reason why you can't dabble in locos from the next era. I have two 67s, a 66 and an 08 in EWS. And now the transition liveries (Loadhall, EW&S and "Unbranded") are starting to catch my eye :D
Go for what you like, you can always cluster stock around more than one specific time period.

Simon, I'm not one for 'eras' so I'll write in dates, if you don't mind.
Don't forget that, on some lines, the biggest, indeed only, change inside the railway fence, since the 1970s has been the stock - signalling, signage, layout etc has, to some extent, remained unaltered. Even a few miles from Paddington Greenford is (was) controlled by Lower Quadrant semaphore signals until 2014 (This may still be the case).
What I am getting at is this - you do not need to confine yourself to any set date.
Substitute a Class 47, maybe a 31, a few blue/grey coaches, a Class 108 DMU and 16 ton mineral wagons and SWB vans (maybe even a few Hydraulics) and you might be running a 1970s WR layout one day and perhaps the next with some Sectorisation 56s/58s, a couple of 150s representing the late 1980s. Or, as you say, NSE 101s a London based layout in the 1990s the next.
Simply by changing your stock on different days you can have a big selection of what you run and, in some ways, a different layout every day.
It's just a suggestion, but perhaps worth thinking about?
