Hi all,
I've been reviewing my progress into N gauge so far. It appears to me that I really would quite like to go further with British outline types. I've got Kato track and lately a Kato controller, as well as my first point with lever. I feel that is probably the way forward for track, but my Dapol steamer is starting to go hesitant, and that could be just down dusty track but I will look into it as best I can. I suspect it's not that though as the diesel runs fine on the track. I've seen othere report simialr issues on the forum.
I'm working out where I want to go next and feel I probably won't be wanting DCC after all, and as such I'm starting to object to the concept of having to pay for the "DCC ready" bit and would rather have more of it's value in it's DC attributes.
I get the impression that Dapol and Farish are doing all "DCC ready" but Union Mills are not and quite possibly never would. So that looks like a potentially more fruitful area to explore.
What I can't know yet is how they might run on Kato track with Kato power.
I'd really appreciate anyone, who has experience of that, sharing how they find it to be.
I half wanted to ask this in the Union Mills area and the Track and underlay section, but since it is not truly just about one or the other, I settled for in here. It's probably not out of place here but I hope enough people who might know about this will see it in here. :hmmm:
Many thanks for any experiences you might be able to share on this.

My Adams 0395 runs just fine over Kato track including the #4 points. Can't imagine the controller makes much difference either way, but I'm using a Gaugemaster unit rather than the Kato controller.
Cheers, NeMo
I have an oval of Kato track and my UM loco runs fine on it .
I have a Gaugemaster controller , but a Kato one should
be ok.
I've had some problems with my Union Mills 'Director' derailing on a couple of #4 points - although to be fair this is a problem for most of my bogie and pony truck locomotives regardless of manufacturer. I've applied the standard fix to one of the points which seems to have cured the problem.
The #4 problem is a known manufacturing defect and the fix can be found here: http://www.pbase.com/atsf_arizona/kato_4_turnout_tuning&page=all (http://www.pbase.com/atsf_arizona/kato_4_turnout_tuning&page=all)
I'm sure this fix has been covered on this forum but it's late and I cannot find it.
I've noticed a power drop off across some of my Kato track as well. I've wired up several unijoiners and will see if this helps matters once the track plan is finalised.
