My breathing suffers once he temperature rises above 'nice and warm' :-\
Bad day today, any movement is an effort. So much so that Ive ordered an air conditioning unit (arriving Thursday) and in the meantime have destroyed nearly 8/9 months growth of facial fungus and its whole population of bacteria. A warning if you do that.............. beware when looking in a mirror for the fist time afterwards. I wondered who the ugly blighter starring back from the mirror was :o
Im told its 85F outside in the shade which to some of our colonial friends tis nothing but to us its O.T.T
85F ... hmm, that's 30C in new money. You must have got all our pre-summer heat, it's unseasonally cool here (barely pushing 25C, almost long-sleeves weather).
:laughabovepost: :laughabovepost:
It must be hot! But after the shock I'll bet all yer mates tell you that you look 10 years younger.
Try 47 degrees C, mate. Then you're cookin!
:beers: George
Hottest I ever experienced was a day where it peaked 56C in Iraq, March 2007, while running around in full uniform, body armor and and all the kit...
Wasn't fun...
Even 'oop North it is hot today so, like Jon, my face has been strimmed (found the odd birds nest and rasher of bacon :-[), the thinnest duvet has been put on the bed (they reckon it will be 20 degrees overnight) and the whiskery knitting needles (aka my legs) are being given an airing, thus scaring passers by. Luckily for them my hay fever means I can't really go out as my eyes end up all puffy and closed up 8). Supposedly even hotter tomorrow
82F up here on t' moors!
Don't like it.............
27.2 C here in West Swindon,to da**ed hot, been sleeping on top of the bed not in it.
Wouldn't be without my portable air-conditioner! 8)
Bought it about five years ago as I absolutely can't stand hot weather and dread summer every year. It lives in the bedroom but with the doors open in the house the air tumbles down the stairs cooling the whole house. Also no more restless nights where it's too hot to sleep :)
Best investment I ever made
Paul
I experienced 55+degC in Syria a few years ago (1996ish I think) but I don't remember it feeling as hot as it did today. Then again the reason it felt hot today was that I had a training day in Staines where I had to leave the car outside. It heated up like an oven so when I got back in I could hardly touch the steering wheel. Couple to that I then drove for 2.5 hours home with the AC not working and the front electric windows not working (stuck shut) and believe me, that was ruddy hot!

There's Hot and there's Hot, a lot depends on the Humidity.
In Tenerife in high Summer it regularly gets above 40 (Celsius) and sometimes hits 50, but it never feels as Hot as it is as the Humidity level usually remains good.
It is only when we get a "Calima" that it becomes uncomfortable and those with Asma and other breathing difficulties are advised to remain indoors.
A "Calima" by the way is when the sky is full of sand clouds with sand picked up from the Sahara Desert which is not to far away. The Sun's rays get trapped below these clouds and amplify and the temperature soars.
I had to work in a boiler house today doing modifications to a control panel and I can tell you it was hot, never seen so much water coming out of my body, just the wrong day to do that job in this heat today, oh and my boss asked if I had lost weight when I got back to the office lol.
Got to about 23 degrees here today but tempered by a strong wind which got stronger as the day progressed.
The wind was strong enough to prevent the Fowey to Mevagissey ferry running today.
Of all the days to pick to do some ironing
At last,
hooray,
the climate in Blighty is becoming tolerable.
I dont think I'll need the lecy blanket to warm up my bed tonight :)
I might even be able to plant out my tomatoes soon ?
and the beans that went out 2 months ago can stop shivering.

Hot weather during Wimbledon, well there's a rarity.!
I'm in Washington DC this week and it's hot in t'colonies. 90 degrees warm in old money (sorry we don't do centigrade over here at all) and 90% humidity, which is an unpleasant but fairly typical summer combination :goodbye:

Not a lot you can do about it when you're sat in your office overheating, dreaming of ice baths...
The sky now has that yellowish tinge that presages a thunderstorm, and a few rather large raindrops have fallen but it's still 28 degrees outside and 26½ degrees inside.

I never complain about hot weather. I can sympathise with people whose health is affected by it but cold weather can be just as detrimental. And hay fever always ruins June for me, whether it is hot or cold.
Having spent most of my working life working outdoors I treasured the few weeks of summer and dreaded winter which always seemed to drag on for months and months. I grew to hate it in the end.
Still, cooler this morning, with the promise of thunderstorms, which means I will spend a lot of time trying to calm down my dog who will have turned into a quivering jelly. Heigh ho...

Purely on a medical basis cold drinks are not good for you in this heat, Bob
All that happens is your body works frantically to bring the fluid up to your core temperature and so you end up perspiring. Sorry, but it's better to have a cuppa tea to keep your fluid levels where they should be.

Well I'm no fan of the heat at all, I feel really  like seasickness when it's much hotter than mid 20's and hayfever starts playing up (though thankfully I'm not chronic with it these days like when I was younger). I worked offshore in the Gulf of Mexico with 47oC day time and 35oC at night but it was 100% humidity and lightening most nights -all the night. With a full safety kit on you had about 30secs outside before all your clothes were just saturated!! I much preferred working in Finland and -38oC! We shouldn't complain too much to be honest but I dug out my cooler for the flat today. You put water and ice in the bottom and it cools the blower, not quite as good as AC, but better than nothing.
...Only thing is I switched it on half an hour ago after a year packed away in the cupboard. Started beeping and I can't find the destruction manual to remind me why

Hey, come on everyone, we are still alive ? oh ohh (howzat for tempting providence ? )
I had it very bad as a child then it peaked in my 20's to the point I was asthmatic with it and on some occasions just couldn't breathe. I was doped up and on inhalers but I remember staying with an ex GF down on the Black Water in Essex one time and we almost called an ambulance in. I twas sick from from March through to October (tree pollen does me in) and some days just couldn't get out of the house. Rather strangely I moved from Aberdeen to Inverness in 2005 and overnight it went away completely. These days in my mid 30's it's slowly coming back but nothing like the sneezing fits I used to take (20-30 sneezes in succession every hour or so starts to hurt real bad). If I go down to my Mothers in Falkirk I'm convinced the hedge next to her house sets me off so I always dread going down in summer as I don't get any sleep each night.
Before anyone mentions I can't stand honey (too sweet for me) and I tried homeopathic remedies, although the dose is so small the last time I tried them my, eyes went so bad the film on the front of my eye balls broke down and I was pulling the thin webs so I could see again! So there's definitely something in it that I reacted to even worse!!!
I don't have any major health issues yet so I'm thankful of that one! Considering my family history I know what's coming and it ain't good if I last much past 50 anyway!

Not to worry tho' it was extra-first class, there were only 14 of us and one was an Ambassador ;) , he dined with the ship's captain, I only rated a seat at the ship's doctor's table :(
Then I made the mistake of returning, some wee while later, to England ( only , you understand, for a sight of some green fields and a telephone system that worked :) )
LoL, reminds me of: "missueur with this Roche you are really spoiling us". Yes as I've done boat work for the last 4 years everyone laughed at me because every time we came within 20 miles of port my hayfever kicked off! I can sniff pollen out 30 miles+ offshore if the wind direction is right. I used to dine with our captains often enough -but they usually wear jeans and a T-Shirt on my boats. Pretty casual, everyone eats the same from the minced beef tank I'm sure we replenished with the tankers each port call. But that's going way OT!!
I added an edit to my above post about our ambassador, we may have crossed ?

my final anecdote for the night (if you're lucky ! ) :-
in those days t'was de rigueur deck quoits and cocktails during the day and dress for dinner.
However,
the really  :laugh3: :heart2: bit was :
we sailed light ( empty ) from Southampton to Lisbon where we were due to pick up cork ! yep, no kidding! and two breeding bulls ( deck cargo )
but that involved passage thro' the infamous Bay of Biscay
of notorious storms etc. ! yes, you are ahead of me :)
' nuf to say : Doctor was ill in his bunk and we dined alone, with table edges raised and tumblers not glasses for the wine ha-ha
Enough of this , , ,

I did see that :o
The forecast is for more thunderstorms through tonight/tomorrow morning :uneasy:
Hold on to your hats !
after much non-activity over the 4casts for early evening,
now lots of activity over Portland - Isle of Widgit and London/home counties and also a big splodge over Kent !
All erupted in the last wee mins.
North Wales - Midlands becoming quite active as well !

Wet overnight here. If there was any thunder it didn't wake us. Me n the cat were up at 05:30 to find it dull but still warm.
A lovely bright morning just now (07:49) with lounge temp showing an in the shade 22.2c.
Enjoy your weekend folks, hot, dry, wet or cold! :beers:

Terrific thunderstorm here last night. I was kept awake until 03:30 by the storm, and then woken up again at around 04:30 by the dog (she is scared of thunder). Still, looks quite pleasant out at the moment.

I don't care whose table it was. There's no way I'd don a dress for dinner
Thunder and lightning at 11.00pm, 3.30am and 05.30am.
No flashfloods, plagues of locusts, armageddon etc

" Ready when you are Cecil "

Not saying it's hot in my house, but a pair of hobbits just threw a ring in it.
You shouldn't give the Hobbits so much beer then they wouldn't throw up their rings.
Best thing about hot weather: Being able to take all your clothes off.
Worst thing about hot weather: Not being able to take all your clothes off.
Go figure. ☺

'm completely with you! Fortunately I have a completely private rear garden --- and I'm retired!
In my case it's better to keep my clothes on it wouldn't be a pretty sight ,even I have to keep my eyes shut when I got nothing on.

I always reccon if people don't like it they needn't look, but if they want to look it's no skin off my nose!
Here in Lancashire as soon as the temperature gets above freezing folks get their legs on display :o :cold:
Sadly, I do not refer to the females of our species :(

If only I had a garden... just a view of a motor mechanic's yard out of my back window! :(
